Ped, on the 'forums' home page it used to indicate the date/time of the last post against each forum. Now it just indicates the number of topics and replies. The last post date was useful as a quick way of scanning which forums had been updated since you last looked. Any chance of resurrecting this? Or maybe I'm the only person who found it useful, in which case please ignore!

The 'View new content' button is the way... hit that, and you're presented with all the new posts on a shiny plate. :-)

Hmm, thanks I'd missed that button. All the new posts are jumbled up together though. Would be nice to be able to filter this by forum, although I guess that would be the same as visiting the individual forums! I just found the 'last post date/time' marker on the old forum homepage a useful way of quickly scanning which forums had new posts since I last looked.

Ped, et al

question.... the old sales forums had some nice terms and condition which you had to abide by - where are they on the new one?
Reason I ask is there currently is an item up with a price of £0.00 and asking for offers. Naturally I offered him the £0.00 he had stated but wondered what the rules were in the new sales forum - has it changed at all?

Hi Luke, no, not in principle. They will need re-wording to suit the new area but the same rules will stand.

Thanks

This a a classic 'it wasn't broken but we've fixed it'...
Who was complaining about the old 'market place' forum??
It was, and is. running perfectly well.
This is really annoying to be honest.
Thought I had already explained it somewhere - it's to raise some funds for the development of the forums. We felt this was the fairest way to do it and want to at least try it and refine it as we go. Sure it'll divide opinion, but that's natural. Remember how many people HATED the new forum software?

It's also much easier to work with for our mods. The fact of the matter is that we simply need a way if generating some cash and this is the fairest way to do it. I, and lots of other members, like it too. I think once its all done you'll find it really attractive and easy to use, especially as a potential buyer or browser.

Can we all chill out, wait until its finished, try it and then either modify it or change it? We have got other ideas and we can always have a re think so don't worry. If anyone else has any other ideas we could use, shoot!

Cheers
ped

hi ped

maybe you could create a thread somewhere for opinions / ideas re this specifically.
i've just created one in 'general' where i would like to get some feedback to be helpful, but please feel free to delete it if you want to make an official one.

like i say in the other thread, i think this forum is great and i appreciate the time and effort from your side.
the frustration is simply because i like the current marketplace and i feel we're losing rather than gaining.

i will stop going on about it now. :)

If it's going to cost development money to finish the classifieds, I'd think long and hard before carrying on... removing the classifieds from the everyday community is a massive backwards step, and I can see no good come of it.

Just my tuppenceworth..
No it's all sorted. Just the developer has had to leave it for a bit due to other commitments but we'll be done soon.

Thanks for the feedback, we'll see. If it doesn't work, we won't carry on with it!

Cheers ted let's see how it looks. The plan is to use it for a month (from full completion) and then have a feedback sesh. Look forward to hearing opinions then,

Many thanks

Bravo to ped and the other mods I say, i'm not sure about the new forum layout personally but am willing to give it time, the guys need to raise some cash which is understandable, 'cause nothing is free let's face it, as ped says of it doesn't work they will change it back.
I think there are issues, and I too liked the old for sale forum for it's interaction and comments, but let's see.
I guess a selling fee of £1.75 as stated could be applied to the old forum format as well if needs be. I guess it would depend on the value of the item being sold but as a starter £1.75 seems reasonable for the benefit of using such a great forum.

I'm slightly confused about what we're supposed to do as buyers and sellers. As buyers do we have to look in both places now ? I mean, are sellers being asked to post in both the forum and the classifieds ? Can I rely on finding any given for-sale item in the forums when I search ? Or is there a recommendation to use classifieds only from now on ? Or ... what exactly ?

For now we have left the old section as it is until the new bit is finished. At that point we'll close the old forum but leave it visible for a while whilst we change over. I admit its a bit confusing right now but it'll all be ok in the end :)

Sorry, Ped, you didn't answer a single one of my questions. 'Or what ?' Doesn't count as a question but I'd like to know about the others.
There's two sections at the moment, and when the new section is ready the old one will be closed to new posts. What you do in the meantime is up to you... use as you see fit. Thanks

As a long term buyer and seller here at BC I have to say I don't like the new format much.

Feels a bit impersonal and loses the nice chatty community feel we had before.

Seems more Gumtree-esque to me as well. Some of the core design elements require additional clicks per item which isn't very user-friendly (especially on a mobile - the fastest growing access device). I usually see this as a tactic from sites trying to 'harvest' as many page views as possible but a lot of site analytics tend to show those additional page views have a lower value and detract from the core message.

Could just be because it's launched with lots of stuff that doesn't work very well so maybe they'll improve.
