Hutton Posted February 3, 2013 Share Posted February 3, 2013 (edited) As my son is travelling in Australia and New Zealand at the moment I am the custodian of his gear. Whereas I am a precision fan he is into his Jazzes. There is one of his basses in particular that I have enjoyed noodling about on. It's a 2004 American Series Jazz with S-1 switch which has had an ebony lined fretless board added by legandary Scottish luthier Jimmy Moon. A black pickguard was also added to complement the black of the ebony. I think it definitely looks better than the white original. I then fell out of love with it for a year and let all the hardware rust like mad. I then decided it'd be a neat upgrade project. I added a new nut and found some black and chrome hardware, a new pickguard (the original was white) and some Seymour Duncan Basslines, though I forget which model. It's currently sporting some Ernie Ball Power Slinky strings and set up in drop B. Love this bass. It's my current number 1. As far I'm concerned it was the model with singlecut scratchplate with rosewood fingerboard and 5 digit E-serial number (most singlecut scratchplate basses had maple fingerboard). Bass-Driver Posted April 7, 2013 Share Posted April 7, 2013 Ahhh, the Jazz Bass. Probably the most versatile bass ever - the "one sound fits all" kind. Every man and his dog has one but there's a good reason for that Anyway - as a proponent of the thesis that a fretted Jazz sounds and looks best with maple board and 70s pickup layout (and as a man without enough spare change in the pocket to buy an original MIA 70s Jazz) I got meself a Geddy. And got rid of the pickguard immediately because black + maple = sexy. I've had this bass for a bit over 1.5 year now and this is the one that gets the most practice time at home. bubinga5 Posted April 17, 2013 Share Posted April 17, 2013 (edited) this is one killer jazz bass.. 96 MIJ non export 75 RI Jazz bass.. now has Lindy Fralin single coil pickups.. the tone is very aggressive 75 jazz bass, but can be very smooth also, the fralins are fantastic pckups..its quite rare for an MIJ 75, as it has 70's spacing.. i now know that it was a special order MIJ 75.... stupidly was going to trade it recently.. Yann is a local Luthier who is very deticated to what he does.....So i challenged him to made me a jazz bass 1975 and here it is........ One piece ass body ,hipsot brass bridge,norstrand pick ups,maple neck,ebony fretboard, shaller tuners,handmade traditional trussrod........ The bass is oil finish........the feeling of wood.......
