Show some love for...Burman guitar amps! What do you own?

I own a couple of their bass heads and a Pro501 1x12 combo which used to be owned by one of the guitarists in Lindisfarne.

I normally use it with a Lexicon MPXG2 multi effects unit but never managed to get a satisfactory crunch out of it. However I recently saw this clip on youtube of a Pro2000 head being used with a power attenuator.

Playing aside, the crunch alone made goosebumps stand up on the back of my neck.

There are some interesting stories about Burman amps from those who have known Gregg personally too.

Don't worry if you've shared it on another thread. Lets see what you've got!

I couldn't believe it and I agree this isn't really a good thing.
Up to £400 seems a very fair and nice price for a 501.

Thats probably because people like us talk them up on forums. I've seen prices shoot up on graphite necked Alembics because of forum activity. Having said this, that particular amp is in spectacular condition. There's another for sale at the moment so don't be too disappointed even if its not in the same nick.

Update bump: Found out how to get a satisfying crunch - JJ Tesla 12AX7C preamp valves. Gorgeous mid-gain sound (I guess it could be boosted too.) The woofy, fuzzy Black Sabbath 70's sound I was getting was simply worn out preamp valves. The JJ's have given my GX3 preamp a new lease of life. Wish I had the combo with me to work on too...

Never owned one, but I did have the good fortune to meet Gregg Burman back in the day when he had the little shop in the arcade off Percy street (whose name I forget - not even sure if it's still there TBH) in Newcastle. Tiny shop with a massive glass frontage in an arcade of similarly glass-fronted shops, 8x12 stack with a 100w head on top and a white Stratocaster for customers to play... :swoon: I would have been around 22 then and he was definitely older than me, so he must be pushing 70 by now.

Ahhh. Happy days. :)

Sorry about that; carry on...

Yes and not enjoying the best of health but he's getting by.

The one amp I regret selling in my Burman 501. IT was a beast of a thing.

Looks very clean too!
