Synth Bass

I'm also looking into getting hold of a synth and the Bass Station 2 looks as though it will meet my needs. I'm trying to achieve this...

I assume that the BS2 will give me this sound and that I can't do this with a pedal? I also need to replicate this sound...

Thanks in advance.

Loving all the BSII love (i'm a Novation employee for the sake of transparency).
Unofficially (because it's 3rd party paid content), check out Darrell Freeman's excellent patch-pack aimed at bassists. Obviously these sounds work in other octaves, but my understanding is that Darrell specifically designed the sounds in our octaves ;)

Yep, the BS2 will nail those sounds and you can use the arpeggiator to get the fast 16ths.

Perfect - thanks for that. The less said about my current bands taste in material the better!

Yes, that was the one - mine was 220, and it came up with a banner saying 'You can't bid on this item because:' with no list of reasons. Way it goes some times I guess, then there was one straight after at a bin of 230, I asked the guy if it had a power supply, he never answered and then it sold a few hours later!

I agree - I also thought the excuse was odd - accidentally peeled the plastic off. One maybe, two? And hard to describe something as very good condition when it really isn't. But the main clincher is if you ask someone a question and they don't answer, how can you rely on them to be able to deal with you after you have given them any money?

I was actually looking for a Roland VR-09 but they seem to have disappeared second hand since they have gone up.

If you're within striking distance of Derby there's a used one on gumtree at the moment.

To be honest I wanted a Ultranova for ages. I've used a mininova in a show before and it sounded good but a part of me is enamoured with the idea of an analogue synth even if it means losing the option of polyphony...I may end up eventually getting both, who knows! BS2 first though I reckon. Basses & leads are more my thing synth-wise than pads etc.

Just completed this:

Really helpful information on the instrument and many helpful tips too.

Thanks for posting the link. Added this to my favourites to complete this week.

Ah I thought you might have been bidding on that one - I was watching it but didn't bother bidding this time. Hope you enjoy it!

They do come up quite often so you shouldn't be waiting long. Although as you are in that there london aren't there loads in second hand instrument shops and london gumtree? THere were certainly none near me but when I was looking for Sub37s before I talked myself out of them, well over half were local pickup only in london.

I'm in London too and it took me little while to find mine. I was hoping to get one with that case, which might be the reason it took a little longer. Ended up getting a mint, boxed BS2 with the Novation soft case for £255. 👍

Thats good. There was one previously with a case but it wasn't mint, and I prefer the good condition to the bag - and I am really of what other people call 'very good condition' having fallen for that before. I think the case might be useful, might end up getting one if I end up lugging it around everywhere.

Well the Novation bag is easily obtainable for £30 from a few places and it looks to have a decent sized front pocket which is nice. I'd definitely be investing in one, but I do have a bit of an obsession with making sure everything I own has a proper case. It can/does affect resale value though so that's my excuse...
