As for stopping, well with so many recent buys all under my belt, every one of them a fantastic bass, I have come to realise that these basses are really 'me' - and now I want to keep these 3 and settle down and record some more music!

As you might remember I had to sell my two lovely Bacchus basses (nicest wooden necked basses I have had) and I got this to compensate, leaving me some money left over so I can fairly comfortably recover from my operation.

I consider myself extremely lucky - time to stop chancing it and chill out!!!

it's really nice when you settle on basses. i still had bouts of GAS for a while after getting my Shuker, but now when i look at other basses, no matter how much i like them, i don't find myself longing after them the way i used to (christ! i sound like i'm married!) because i know mine can do everything i want and more. it's a good feeling isn't it!

It really is lovely Tom, I have had it for a while with my 4 strings and had other basses up against tem for some time, but they fall by the wayside eventually.

It would be great to meet up and have a look at your bass at the next avaliable bash!

Later today or tomorrow I will do some PROPER recordings. This was basically a levels test before I had a chance to properly do a take and mix it down etc because I turned my bass pod off and it fudged my whole thang.

I will get some samples of it showing how the different setting sound, too!

Did some very rough demos recently in preperation for a new CD next year - I thought I might as well post up a couple of clips of the Vigier 5 which I used on most tracks:

As you may have read in the 'Effects' forum I recently added a Roland V-Bass system to my #1 bass. It installed really nicely and sounds incredible. I may go for the internal installation kit at some point but to be honest it is great as it is, the 'brain' is neat and out of the way and the whole thing looks very neat and tidy. Here are a couple of snaps, I will upload some grooves ASAP too.

It is brilliant to have a perfect sounding Jazz, Precision and Musicman sound all on my #1 bass (I could never find these sounds in basses that play as nicely as my #1). I am going to spend the evening setting up some FX and a Ken Smith sound.

For those who don't know, the V-bass lets you move 'virtual pickups' around the bass, letting you create basically anything. I really truthfully have made the best sounding Jazz bass I have heard with this thing, and I have a lot to learn with it!

This is the 'brain' at the back - you can use two buttons on it to bypass the unit entirely and use your magnetic pickups in the bass, or a mixture of both, or the V-bass pickup.

Isn't it Roland who make the pickup processor for the Fender Strat VG? I didn't know they did an outboard bass version! Do you think Fender will do a Jazz or Precision VG?

Hi Rich,

I was aware that Fender make a 'Roland Ready Strat' which is the guitar version of this with the leccy built in. I don't think Roland make the V-bass any more because I guess most bass players can't be bothered, so very unlikely that they will bring one out. To be honest, the whole benefit in my eyes is being able to fit it to a non Fender bass and be able to make all the sounds of the Jazz/Precision/MM camp all in one bass.

Gotta say I was fairly sceptical about it but it has surpassed my expectations. Have a listen to the sound clips [url="http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.aspx?ObjectId=241&ParentId=116"]here[/url], the Slap and Jazz bass ones in particular. Fantastique!!

Ped - is that pickup screwed into the body of the bass??

I originally taped it on and filled the holes with screw heads, so no irreversible damage. I have however screwed it on now because it won't be going anywhere. Although this is my #1 bass I am not precious about it so if I did yank off the Vbass one day then I wouldn't be worried about a couple of holes. Though now you mention it....

I have spent a couple of days now getting them right - you know when it is best to walk away and come back with fresh ears when doing these things, so it takes a while until you can come in after a day without bass, plug in and turn on to hear exactly what you want to hear. Sometimes hours fiddling with anything is bad because you lose sight of what you are after!!

I am confident now that the two sounds are nigh on perfect, definitely better since that recording. I will do a better one over the weekend!

Agreed mate,

Whenever i make changes to my sounds on the bass POD i give it at least a week before I have settled on the sounds I want and when I first got it, it took me a good 3 months before I had patches set up that I was happy with.

Im keen to see what this little baby can do, ive never heard of it before and if it sounds as close to the original as possible then great!

Just updating my thread with my latest bit of gear:

Today I got some cabs at last and now my pro quality rig for under £300 is complete. It sounds fantastic, everything I wanted. I can plug my bass straight into the power amp or use the Vbass into the amp in stereo. The cabs have a thunderous low end and are really REALLY articulate and clear. I will still be using IEMs 99% of the time but this fits the bill for the other 1%.

The cabs are pretty light (about 55lbs) and quite compact (4x8 and 1x15) so moving it about should be easier and the two cabs fit in the boot of my Vectra!
