Hi Folks,

I think the phrase is 'better late than never', so without further ado, here are the rather sketchy details for the 11[sup]th[/sup] Basschat South East Bass Bash!! :)

Date: Saturday 23rd September 2016
Time: 10am - 5pm
Entry: £10
Venue: Jubilee High School, Surrey, School Lane, Addlestone, Surrey KT15 1TE

Workshops/Guest Speakers/Guests etc:
Quick bit of news on Workshops...

Davey Rimmer, Workshop
With a bit of help from Gary, a.k.a. cetera, I'm really pleased to say that Davey Rimmer (bassist for Uriah Heep) has stepped up and will give a 45 minute presentation on his career, gear choices, life on the road, Uriah Heep, Trevor Bolder etc and - if we ask him nicely - will maybe demonstrate a few tunes....

I'd still like to invite ideas from everyone as to what else we could do in terms of workshops etc.

For example, I think there was a thread recently on Basschat about 'the future of bass' (or words to that effect), so I'd be particularly interested to explore that idea a bit further at the Bash if anyone's got any thoughts on it and would like to do a workshop??

Also, there's been another thread recently about some of the very talented and exciting upcoming female bass players around at the moment, so with that in mind, I think it would also be interesting to have a contribution or two from any of our female forum members if anyone feels like making a contribution?

Having just bought a fretless bass and actually started to use it regularly, I'm amazed at how different it is to playing a fretted bass... So, I'd be very keen for someone to run a workshop on the art of fretless bass playing if anyone feels they'd like to do that?

Anyway, those are just ideas off the top of my head this morning, but any other sensible, funny, exciting ideas for workshops would be very welcome! :)

Other important info:
Format: We made a few changes last year to the room layout and may do the same this year, but whatever, it will be something along these lines....

1 x general area to set up your gear, plus 1 x quiet room/workshop area with workshops through the day, plus Jamming room, plus cafeteria, plus Raffle

Spaces: again, we may make a few changes to this, but something along these lines:

The Quiet Room and the Theatre for Workshops
The Jamming Room for jamming with drummers (and other strange non-bass playing people)
Main Hall (where you can set up your gear and make some low frequency vibrations)

Cost: £10
Last year, it cost about £185 for the hire of the venue plus an amount for some public liability insurance cover therefore to cover those basic costs, we need to charge £10 per head entrance fee to one and all!

Charities: We will donate all profits from the day to a worthy cause or two (details to be confirmed):

Refreshments will be available on the day for a small charge of course which will help increase the profits and keep everyone happy! Last year, as ever, Hamster & Mrs Hamster did all the work on that and have offered to do so again, so many thanks in advance to them!

Workshops
See above for details, but because the talks and workshops really do add so much to the day, we are always interested to hear of any ideas/requests from the Forum, so please let us know..

How you can Help/Get Involved
What would be really helpful from everyone who's interested in participating on the day is:

1. Donations of raffle prizes
2. Ideas/requests for the workshops
3. Volunteers to help out on the day (if needs be)

How about a 'heft' workshop ;-)

An explanation of -

What it is
A demo of amps that certainly have it
A demo of amps that say they have it
A demo of amps that dont actually have it.......
A demo of amps that have it and you can carry easily
A demo of amps that have it but you need a roadie to carry

and then the same for people that have a different idea of what it is

Sort of 'the definitive heft' thread acted out with real stuff

:-)

ps that started off a bit tongue in cheek but maybe its an idea?

Great idea! 😊

Any ideas on who could/would run it?

Personally, I'd nominate chimike for this task, but he'll probably kill me for suggesting it!

Mike....?

Quick bit of news on Workshops...

Thanks Gary and Davey - absolutely brilliant! :)
