** If you want to continue reading on...

Inherent Specs:
- Body: Ash
- Finish: 3-Tone Sunburst
- Pickguard: Black
- Neck: Maple
- Fingerboard: Maple, with white binding and block inlays (?pearl inlays -- I am not sure of the material used, but it looks like pearl to me)
- Controls/Electronics: Passive with the usual Volume-Volume-Tone knobs
- Neck attachment: 3-bolt Micro-Tilt
- Pickups: Jazz Bass Pickups
- Tuners: Original Fender Tuners -- with "Fender" engraved in each of them
- Case: Fender Hardshell Case (see photos)

- As from what I was told, this is a '77 jazz bass
- I am reluctant to sell this lovely bass.
I have played different jazz basses.
By far, this jazz bass has the best tone among all the passive jazz basses that I have owned.
For me (and my subjective ears), it seems that this bass has a natural scoop in its tone.

Please Note:
1. This bass has been modified.
The previous owner modified this and tried to emulate the Marcus Miller bass (I think).
Thus, please take note of the following modifications:
a. Badass Bridge - original bridge will be included
b. Brass Nut - I do not have the original nut anymore

2. The hardshell case has some wear, and has no keys (see photos).

3. This bass has gone through 4 decades, and it has seen some action throughout its lifetime.
It has its scars to prove it.

4. It is not easy to pull the knobs off from the pots.

5. Yes, it has the original Fender tuners with "Fender" engraved in each of them, but there are only 3 screws that hold the tuner for the G-string, in which these screws have loose threads.
It is the tension of the G-string that holds it (the tuner) down in place.
It was like this when I got it.
I discovered this when I changed the strings, but it has not bothered me or my playing.

6. I may withdraw this sale at anytime.

  • 2 weeks later...

i'll weigh it later.
regarding the pickups, i was told that they're the original ones but i was not able to find any mark to prove it's date.
however here are some shots that i took:

neck pickup:

bridge pickup -- the metal plate appears to serve as the ground wiring to the bridge:

I have no objection to fake relicing, but this puts the latter firmly in its box. An extremely cool instrument and cool price (IMO). I'd ask about smoke and pet free but suspect not over the forty years

it weighs 5.1 Kg in our kitchen scale.

Might be worth trying to check that accurately. That’s just over 11.2lbs which would make it one of the heaviest Fender J basses from this era I’ve ever seen (I’ve played P’s that have tipped over 11lbs but J’s tend to be a bit lighter).

That's really not crazily heavy for this era. My 75 Jazz weighs 12.4lbs, and I've played heavier...All Fenders at that time used the inconsistent northern ash, there wasn't a preference for just using it on P Basses!

Keep coming back to look at this though, sounds pretty resonant on the video.
