Is there a "best" side? My face doesn't have one of those! For me it varies by venue. Most of the time I play at the drummer's left side when I have the choice. But some venues with their own backline, the bass rig is on the right, so I go on the right. It's not my stuff so I don't want to be a diva and demand that it's moved around on my say so. I don't think it matters anyway, no-one notices the bass player

Surprisingly for the usually rabid YT comment section, very little is mentioned in there about the pot guts replacement, and none of them being all "HOW VERY DARE YOU". Someone asked about not doing anything about the tuners and the video poster replied saying there was no rust on them, so I guess their focus was on removing rust, not polishing things that didn't have rust on them. In the end, it's not my video, not my bass, so I enjoyed the video for what it is and I really don't care beyond that.

If it's a single pickup then it doesn't really matter. Electricity flows either way through a pickup. The only time it matters is when you have multiple pickups and you need to get them in phase. Also, the worst thing that'll happen if you get it the wrong way round in a multiple pickup bass is that the bass will sound a bit thin/nasal with both pickups on and turned up full. Then you just swap the hot and ground. You can't break a (passive) pickup by wiring it the "wrong" way round.

I think I should bow out of this discussion. I will never be interested in buying an old Fender, so I don't suppose I've got a horse in this race. In the waters the aficionados swim in, it's probably a drowning offence. I don't even swim!

Depends who you ask. Some people will be wiping the foam from their mouths. Some people (me included) will just get the popcorn out. I personally find it amusing that people would rather hang on to some crusty, malfunctioning pot in the quest for "provenance". Pots are consumables, moving objects that wear out over time. Pot codes on the casings are important as they provide a useful indication of age of an instrument in the absence of other indicators. But whether or not replacing the guts of a pot and retaining the casing is "blatant fraud" is a matter of opinion. No, that pot casing doesn't belong to that pot. But surely it's the casing that's the important part? I don't see what the problem is, personally, but I'm not a vintage Fenderhead, so I'm probably wrong.

New guts, old pot casing. Because some people care about that sort of thing, it seems.

Is this a resale value question or are you actually looking to refurb the pots with a view to putting them back in the bass for your own use?

Bit of a trek for me, appreciate the free entry though. Closer people - you've got no excuse - free entry FFS. Get off your butts!

I've only bought from them once. Agree that the pictures of the items could be more detailed. I didn't ask detailed questions about the bass (because it was pretty esoteric and I knew what I was getting myself into) but I did enquire if the bass came with the hard case and they did answer promptly in the affirmative. Quite why that info wasn't on the site I don't know - descriptions aren't exactly effusive. Anyway, I bought it, it arrived no problem and was well packaged. I was a wee bit disappointed at the condition of the bass when it arrived - it was impossible to see in their wee pictures but the hardware was pretty dirty and needed a thorough clean. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things - it's a second hand bass, but with better pics I might have been more prepared (or possibly attempted to haggle the price down a bit). All in all though, no real complaints, I just think their website could do with having better (more detailed/larger) pics and better item descriptions.
