  1. Hi guys, I've not checked in here for ages. I've got the Super Bassman 300 and is just a stellar amp. So lush & tubey. I read a few threads where some state that there's just no need to use heavy valve amps these days. Well, I've not heard anything but a 300w all tube amp with 6550's sound as fantastic as this amp. I was gonna get A SVT-VR but the Fender was lots cheaper (here in Australia) so after many recommendations I took a punt. This will totally cop the thick lush VR tone + So much more with its 2nd channel & blendable drive. Just a beautiful amp that, I think, will become a classic. Anyone else using one, or has used one, on here? 2. I gigged mine last Fri in our 8 pice Funk/soul band (hard hitting drummer & keys player who sticks his fingers in his ears when we get too loud :-) Was in a Med sized club with about 250-300 ppl -so club was moderately full - I had The LB-30 DI'd but only needed a little in the PA as I was cranking it ONstage (Keyboardist had his fingers IN the ears towards the end as the vol crept up) It sounded great. Didn't have much heardroom left-if any- but it did the job wonderfully!
  3. [b][size=5][sub]Thanx guys! I've had the AE212 for over a year probly- got it soon after they arrived in Aus. I am floored by the tone of the LB-30 thru just about ANY cab! unlike some "tubey" sounding new amps that only seem to sound good thru a certain cab or type of cab. I've been there & don't wanna go there again. [/sub] [sub]Sure I've got my Mesa Walkabout which will do the tubey thing better than ANY non all tube amp I've ever played, but U just can't go past real tubes for that sound!!!![/sub] [sub] So far I've played the LB-30 thru:-[/sub] [sub]Bergantino AE112- LOVELY & biting. [/sub] [sub]AE212 - sweet tubey smooth & lush, but still punchy ,[/sub] [sub]2 x Mark Bass HR115's Sweet 15" & tube amp sound. Hard to beat![/sub][/size][/b] [sub][size=5][b]I played a gig at a med.sized club last Fri with our 8 piece funk/soul band-used the 2 x 115's & had it DI'd tho I only had a small amount in the FOH PA. I had it cranking onstage. Fun fun[/b][/size]![/sub]
  4. [sup]The light will only light up IF you're overpowering the horn AFAIK. & (IIRC) it's there to protect the horn.[/sup] [sup] That cab is tuned very low, great for drop tuning etc. but not SO great for lotsa volume. I had one myself & I could EASILY get it to 'fart out' - admittedly I was using one of the most gutsy amps- a Fender 300PRO. But when I got my Bergantino NV610 the whole band noticed the HUGE difference in clarity & its ability to handle WAY more volume. [/sup] [sup]Still, it IS a 410 & it should handle a fair bit of volume. Depending on how loud your guitarist/s are playing, it ain';t surprising thjat a single 410 won't keep up with 100w Tube MArshalls into 4x12" cabs- they DO go stupid loud.[/sup] [sup] PPL with FAR more knowledge than myself will know & help you more, but, IME, the low tuning of that cab hindered it's ability to go as loud as other 410's that ain't tuned as low. - as I say, I MAY be totally off track here, but MY experience of that cab was such.[/sup]
  5. Just wanted to say a big THANKS to WALBASSIST-in particular- & others who helped me with regards to my purchasing a Li'l Bastard 30. It's a Li'l Ripper for sure!! Played it at our Motown Show rehearsal a cuppla nites ago & it did the job sweetly!! Used it that night thru my Bergantino AE212 ( this was the day the amp arrived -bought 2nd hand from a guy on other side of the country) as I was going to use my 'do it all/back up amp- GB Shuttle 6.0 - so the Berg AE212 was just the cab that was with me that day. Here's a pic of it with the AE212 & my (Aus made) Mallioux J5. (I used a Fender P with flats for the actual rehearsal) The LB-30 really whooped thru that cab. I had plenty of volume- clean even- & we were generating a fair volume as this is a 12 piece band( 3 lead vocalists, 3 horns, drums[hard hitter!!!], guitar, keys, bass, & percussion) . I'm going to use the LB-30 for this band's shows - 3 in Dec. including NYE at the city's foremost festival at the docks- of course it's only stage volume needed for these shows, & a DI out & mic'd cab will be used. After playing this same festival last year & using my SVTII it'll be fun to be using a 10th of the power this time around. It really kicks through enough speakers. Sure thru just the ONE 12" or even a single 15" it's easy to get it into overdrive at fairly low volumes, but add another 15" (as I did at last night's gig) & it's a fairly loud li'l beast. I MIGHT swap the V1 pos tube to a lower gain 12AU7 just to see how it goes, but, consider me happy at the moment. So a big thanks to all that helped me prior to getting this amp. Appreciated. Rod
  6. it IS a shame, coz the 7 PRO IS an AWESOME amp. I've not had a prob with mine(a rev-c) & I've done about 25 gigs ranging from corporate, full PA back up, to using our own PA at both LOUD outdoor ones (no PA for bass) & quiet jazz/blues gigs. It's not done anything untoward. All these reports DO make me a li'l nervous about it, but, honestly, it's performed superbly. Has a 3 yr warranty (I think it's 3 yrs-must check my receipt) anyway. It seems they 'show their colours' early on anyway. So, hopefully mines a good 'un.
  7. +1 Good wheels, Tilt back capable handle & Skid rails ALL help considerably to make a cab such as the NV610, Barefaced's 610 & Ampegs 610 easier to move than many 410s. Even when I had my NV610, I'd often stick it on a crate to get it up nearer to my ears. This doesn't really apply if U R on a larger stage, but if you're standing close to yr rig, makes a heck of a difference
  8. [quote name='sixdegrees' timestamp='1319390725' post='1413535'] Hi all, I'm about to venture into the world of Ampeg and have pretty much decided on an SVT 7 Pro head. But cab choice is giving me a headache. Do I pair it with a 6 x 10 cab, two 4 x 10s, or a 410 + a 115? I've heard from other users that the low end response from the 410 isn't great, while the 610 may be lacking the extra 'oomph' and not using the heads full potential. But would the 115 make the overall sound too boomy? I play classic/hard rock, with some metal, covers. And I'm up against a hard hitting drummer and a Mesa guitar rig. Currently using an Ashdown ABM with 210 and 115 compact cabs, and this isn't enough to cut through at the larger venues without the cones farting. Any advice most welcome. [/quote] YEs- 2 x good quality 410's or go the Barefaced route & get something that will stack vertically. You'll be amazed at how well you cat thru- no doubt you'll find yourself having to turn DOWN. I run a 7 PRO into Bergantino 212, 410 & Sometimes 2x15"s Absolutely AWESOME head! LOUD AS Hell too!
  9. Late, I know, but,... Yep it's a real tube in there,& adjusting the tube gain makes a lot of difference. It will give a nice tube grind. & yes, check out Aged Horse's suggestions re eq. Help a lot. I like the following:- Bass-11 o'clock Mid freq-8 o'clock Mid level 2 o'clock Treble- 11 " Buttons- bass boost -ON Mid scoop- ON hi boost -Off Works for me.
  10. Yeah, I just noticed that. Things change & sometimes I don't notice. Must be getting old. (only been able to access via ph of late) sorry! Fixed, sort of.........
  11. The WA is imo the best hybrid amp for the real tube sound bar none! I've used all tube amps all my life & the Mesa WA is the only ano I've found that'll give you a convincing ALL tube amp sound together with valve overdrive, the works! For me the GB Streamliner didn't sound like a tube amp-didn't have the mid punch & only sounded good with particular cabs. The WA sounds awesome in it's combo form & also great with any cab I've used it with. Superb amp & remember, will do over 500w @ 2 ohms!

  13. So GW, you have a li'l Bastard do you? & reckon it's good? Being here in Tasmania, I'll be lucky to try one unless I find one in Melb. or Sydney sometime...... Gimme all the goods on it please!
  14. FWIW- If U can PLEASE try the STL600/900 out in a BAND environment BEFORE you buy one. I personally think the SOUND of the STL is great BY ITSELF, but as soon as playing in a decent sized band (in my case I tried it with 2 of my bands -1. 8-10piece soul/funk. 2. Classic Rock 4 pice 2gtrs Bass Drums) It Just lost ALL definition. I couldn't get it to be PRESENT in the mix no matter how I tried. Maybe it was my cabs, tho I tried ALL of mine- Bergs AE112-OK. AE212- awful, AE410 OK. NV215 pretty bad, Mark bass Hr115 x 2 Just OK But in NONE of the gigs did anyone - all the band members, sound eng. reg. audience members that've seen us MANY times - think they could actually HEAR the bass (nor feel it) they said it was a "boomy mess". I tried LOTSA basses too. Obviously It's ME & the way I play also, but just saying TRY in this situation B4 buying. Remember- I did say I LOVE the tone of the STL 600/900 ...... just not in a band mix. Of course everyone's different- thank God, & luckily I still LOVE my GB Shuttle, & I CAN Crank the bass if I wanna on that! My 2c.... take it or leave it.
  15. Fender Regie Hamilton Sig STD. MIM- great quality- Am STD P pup,Noisless J, active/passive. Wicked bass. Not pricey, well here at least.
