No problem Geoff. The Artec comes with 500/250k pots as standard which are fine for passive pickups. Active pickups generally have a lower output impedance and benefit from 25k pots. This keeps the blending of pickups gradual and smooth, not a on/off/both effect. If you are using passive pickups, just wire in as supplied. I still intend to put some sound clips of mine up soon.

I've had a gt7 for a few years now. Great basses. Had similar frustrations with the electronics. Have changed the pre to an Artec 3 band with sweepable mids, opened up the sound no end. Still debating putting an acg filter in at some point. The pickups are fine imo and very hot once rid of the stock preamp. Also had to change blend pot on artec to a 25k. Hope you get the bass sounding how you like. Pete.

Always had Ibanez's, got two guitars by them at the mo, an SZ fitted with Bare Knuckles & an Artcore Custom. My first bass was a GIO 4 string, also had a RD605 which a sold on this very forum and now I've just purchased this '93 SR1306PD (also over in bass porn) I also have use of this old girl (its my girlfriends) silver series precision from '77. just a touch "road-worn" Some of the best instruments ive had the pleasure of playing, esp for the prices.

Hi all. Just snagged this off Ebay for the princely sum of £270! It's a '93 SR1306PD (catchy name eh?) Padouk body, wenge/bubinga neck, active stacked J's, vari-mid preamp. Sounds very Warwick. Makes a nice tonal contrast to my Conklin too.

Dare to be different! I'm in an indie band and use a jazz, a 7-string Conklin & a fretless six! If image matters more, take up modeling Seriously though, the ATK is a fab bass, try one and compare it with a p & jazz, (and whatever else you can) & see what floats the boat.

As already stated, it's not down to which country the bass is made in, but the attitude of the company that makes it. Try out a top line Cort, Ibanez prestige, Lakland Skyline, G&L trib etc. All as well put together as any production line instrument from US/Europe. There are manufacturers, ie Fender, who as previously stated, keep some features & options only on their US builds though.

I've always fancied HH basses, as long as the "bridge" 'bucker is in the correct place.

Hi, I did have that bass, sold it on here to a guy just up the road in Liverpool. I remember taking the pickups out to check myself, the model numbers are stamped on the baseplate. They were SMB 5a & SJ5-67/70 Both alnico magnets. I thought they sounded great, but the preamp wasnt the greatest though.

IMO the best 6 string out there for that sort of cash. The only other I would consider (at that price) would be another Ibby, the BTB676

If your after valve power stage grind, then your gonna have to be turning up pretty loud to get it, which may or may not ruin the mix of the band. If your looking for some dirt from the preamp, then you might as well use an outboard pre/drive unit with your current gear. Do you use a PA for bass in the majority of your gigs?
