1. Hi there, neighbour! So very tempted, especially as you live so close to me but I don't use backline anymore. Used to have serious GAS for these so have a bump on me.
 2.
I had a case of batteries only lasting a monthor less in my bass, then I discovered that there was a short in the circuit which meant the active circuit was on even when a jack wasn't plugged in. Now the Procells I get last for months and months. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item255f020224 These are cheap and delivered super quick too - god bless Babz!
I'll second that emotion - Babz are fantastic; so much so that I'll always use them, even if other sellers are a little cheaper (which isn't very often) because they're so fast and reliable.
 3. I just think it's amusing that he's going to use these strings (or at least 'says' he is) on a headless bass and they don't even seem to be available in double ball end sets. Yes, I know that the single ball end sets can be anchored using the grub screws in the nut piece, but what a faff! I know what sort of string I'd rather use on a headless! It does seem very strange to me that he's moved to Rotosound in favour of Status strings, particularly as Rob Green seems to constantly chuck gear in MK's direction. Just as long as he doesn't go back to Fender...
 4. Speaking of Pino, I would recommend that you dig out the first 2 Go West Albums ('Go West' and 'Dancing On The Couch'). Perhaps not the most obvious 'fretless' tunes but man, can that guy play a tasty, tight bassline. Essential listening for all fretless players in my opinion! Cheers Matt
 5.
is the organ still available?
It certainly is!
 6. Howdy folks My in-laws want rid of this organ, so it's yours for the price of driving 'round to their house: Here's a close-up of the Leslie speaker controls: And here is a close-up of the Rhythm II Harmonizer (whatever that is): I should also mention here that they have a Leslie Speaker that they're selling (all offers considered), the specs of which are: Model: 120 Serial No: F2113 234v 50Hz 60 watts 0.35 amps Pick-up only, for obvious reasons. If interested, please PM me with your contact details and my father-in-law will get in touch. Cheers
 7.
Im really interested in this - I need a new bass to replace my old honer jack thats really no longer working - i'm a true bedrrom player but do like slapping - is this a true Statsu - I once played a friends graphite status about 20 years ago - and never forgot just how funky it soudned when slapped...i have been lloking for a status headless but cant find anyhting that is remotely affordable - so this sounds perfect for me.....can anyone advise please thanks Alex
Hi Alex This bass would kick the cr@p out of the hohner (which, let's face it, is a budget Status-wannabe), not just in terms of funky slapability but general all-round playability, feel and tone (oh, that lovely Status tone) - get it bought and you won't look back! (FYI - I believe this is a Matrix 'Series 1' - correct me if I'm wrong, Status fans.) Cheers Matt
 8.
Next time try it with a proper strap lock.
And, if you try it at a gig, make sure you've got public liability insurance!
 9.
Hi Bean - bin there dun that. Three years ago my daughter was 13 and had just decided to give up flute and learn bass. In the event she got bored after three months and gave up, but that had nothing to do with having no one to play with - we're in London and half her friends (at the time) seemed to play guitar. Silver lining? I picked up her discarded bass, and I haven't stopped playing bass since. My point is, don't spend a lot of money getting her a "good" bass or even a "decent" bass. Pick up a mass-produced Fender copy second-hand - you'll get something perfectly playable for less than £100. There's a Nevada P-bass on eBay right now with a Buy-It-Now of £70. Alternatively, take a look at the Basses For Sale on this site; there's a MIM (Made In Mexico) Fender for sale today at £150 ... the Fender name alone is worth at least £50! Buy her one of the teach-yourself books (I recommend the ones by Stuart Clayton) and see if she does anything with it. If she takes it seriously and gets stuck in, it's easy enough to trade up to a higher-quality bass, and to arrange some lessons before she picks up bad habits. If she's particularly small, or has very small hands, then you might want to consider buying a short-scale bass rather than a long-scale one. That doesn't mean it's a scaled-down copy of a "real" bass ... just that it has a shorter neck with the frets closer together, and therefore a lower string tension to compensate. Good luck. Edit: Oops! That MIM Fender has already sold - I told you £150 was a good price! -_-
Hi chaps Thought I would chime in as I started playing bass at around the same age (13-14). I partly agree with Happy Jack with regards to choosing a bass - it would be madness to spend a fortune on a bass for her, but I would also say it's vital to actually try one before putting your hand in your pocket. The quality of cheap, mass-produced basses varies wildly (eg how the neck feels, how they play and sound, general construction etc). Consequently, there's no substitute for visiting your local music shops and trying a few - you'll know what plays well and sounds good etc but your daughter won't. As Happy Jack also mentioned, you could go down the second-hand route, but I would still recommend trying before buying. It's definitely possible to get a good bass that won't break the bank, but on the other hand she could end up with a piece of crap. Just my opinon (although I started on an Encore precision copy thing from my mum's Kays catalogue so it's amazing I stuck it out)! Cheers Matt
 10.
Hey guys. I am a big fan of speed slappers like Mark King. He uses a metal ring on his thumb to get a more percussive tone out of his slapping. I decided to convert a metal thumb plectrum to become a slapring. I started using it and i loved it! The best thing about it is that slapping on the A string is far far more defined then if i used my bare thumb. Its louder and sits in the mix better. Does anyone else here use Slap rings and would you fork out money for a decent one? I was thinking of getting a gerald reece one from here. http://www.slapring.de/en/productinfo/slapring/index.php Have they been a gimmick to you or an invaluable tool? Cheers! Rob. Edit: Its also handy for fingerstyle only users such as myself to get a nice near plectrum like tone. I may be using this technique in my goth rock band.
Hi Rob Actually, Mark King does not use a metal ring on his thumb - it's just tape. He started wrapping it around his thumb in the early days as he used to split his thumb open by hitting the strings so hard. Obviously it then became a bit of a trademark. I've not tried the slapring myself, but if it works for you and sounds good, I say use it. Cheers Matt
 11.
LOL, you guys need to get out more. Saying that, ive got the theme from the bloody Wonder pets in my head at the moment. ahhhhhh
"What's gonna work? Teamwork!"
 12.
There's some good stuff on Me Too! -- the daft show by the Balamory team about what parents get up to while their kids are with a child minder. Cheers Mark
I remember catching an episode of Ballamory (that my son was watching, I hasten to add) that featured one of the grooviest, funkiest slap lines ever. I very much doubt it was him, but it really sounded like Mark King - style, tone etc. Cheers Matt
 13. Not sure if this belongs in here or in the ‘Tenuous claims to fame’ thread as it’s about someone my wife met... The missus used to work at ‘Andy’s Records’ in Beverley, East Yorkshire. The Beverley Playhouse was quite nearby so they used to get a bit of passing trade from acts performing there - some fairly well known. One day she served a chap and, as he was leaving, one of her workmates, Andy (not the owner) said to her “er, do you know who that was?”. She didn’t. “Pino Palladino!” Obviously I wasn’t there and part of me wishes she hadn’t told me the tale. Matt
 14. I can't really give an opinion on the paint jobs (although they look impressive on the website) but I recently had an LED retrofit done by Sims Custom on my Status and I'm over the moon with the results - see my thread on the statii site here: http://www.statii.com/forum/forum/viewthre...;thread_id=1494 As I mention in this post, the LED battery was on the way out and the LEDs look loads brighter 'in the flesh'. Cheers Matt
 15.
+4. I think that makes 978, but please feel free to correct me.
+2 for me. If Mokl's correct, then that makes it: 980 Cheers Matt
