Live = DI straight to desk, from amp so after compression.

Recording = Mike off-axis for a big full sound

DI out back of ampeg with something close to the cone (usually a D112) and something a bit further back (condensor, usuallt a 414 or Nuemann if i am lucky enough to have one) for a fuller roomier sound.

These are mixed and brought up at differant levels for differant tracks to suit. If a slap part or melody or whatever kicks in the di goes up and the room comes down and if its just beef i am after vice versa.

Generally for demo's and quick stuff i just DI for simplicity.
