I haven't had to buy any leads for years, but unfortunately a couple of my old faithful's are starting to play me up. What do you recommend that has a good quality/price ratio? If you are able to solder then make your own - Neutrik jacks and Van Damme cable are cheap and pro quality, it's surprising how much shop-bought cables using these components cost. If you can't solder then i might as well get the ball rolling by suggesting obbm on here (or his site bassic bits). He'll knock you up pro quality cables for very reasonable prices. danhkr Posted March 10, 2011 Share Posted March 10, 2011 I use Piranha cables. Not so well known but italian cable and neutrik plugs and very good value (aprox £15 for a 3m). I've tried them against Van Damme's own made-up leads and the ridiculously expensive 'Monster' cables and they sound as good. I stay clear of planet waves, I find them a bit gimmicky as a company. Cable life is garuanteed, IIRC but with a little care, you aren't going to need that. If I didn't support this source, people say good things about Obbm. I reckon I know what the majority of posts will say though [/quote] I guess the reason people say OBBM is because: They are great They are well priced and also all of bassist here use them and OBBM is a Bc'er - I'd rather by from BC than just a random shop I haven't got OBBM yet, but to be honest, if I hadn't had mine made by some guys I work with at Air and Abbey Road, I'd would have got OBBM. Count Bassy Posted June 16, 2011 Share Posted June 16, 2011 I make mine myself. Vandamme cable and Neutrik connectors. The only complaint I have with the Vandamme cable is that the inner insulator on the instrument cable tends to melt too easily ( I tend to put a little loop in it so that the inner core does not get strained if things move a bit. Solution is to solder the centre while straight, then put the loop in and then solder the screen). The inner insulation on the Starquad (for mics) doesn't seem to melt at all, so I don't know why they don't use that in the instrument cable as well.
