I used to listen to Black Betty when i was young ( i still am young... i just mean younger. ) And loved it for just the great rock kinda sound, and the time signature changes ( i didn't know that that was what they actually were, i just noticed them. )

But i hadn't listened to that song since learning to play the bass, until recently... and when it got to the crazy fast tempo bit, i could have fainted... ;)

If I ever learn to play that part well, i will consider myself a good bassist. :)

What songs have made you guys and girls feel the same? (or similar?)

'Techno' by John Scofield (Darryl 'The Munch' Jones on bass) Bb Bb Ab Ab F F Ab Ab Db Db Db Db (sixteenths at around 140 bpm). I can play 'Donna Lee' but I can't play that single repeating bar evenly! (its the opening line so you could probably hear it on Amazon for free!)

That's a funny video. Were RamJam some kind of proto village people?
And why's Jimmy Page clapping like a fool in the background?

I honestly don't know... I wonder if they ever bothered making other songs... they obviously deserved to be more than one hit wonders :)
I didn't notice Jimmy before... I'll have to watch and take a closer look...

YYZ by Rush, I can play some Rush stuff, but I've never had the time to figure this one out. However the wife is off to Brazil for a month to see her folks in two weeks time, so I'm going to crack this tune while she is away !

+1 for Rhythm Stick as well, very tricky !
+1 for Rhythm Stick I think it's an amazing bass line. I can play the first 2 bars and thats it.

I also like doing slap, although not to well. I'd like to learn Tommy the Cat or The Awakenings by Les Claypool.
The Awakening is originally by The Reddings...

My love of all things Rush and Geddy Lee inspired me to play bass ( already a guitarist ) about 15 years ago
So his lines were my main motivation. Now being in a cover band for 12 years has really been worth it's weight in gold. We decided to play Rhythm stick and it literally broke my arm. Then I discovered I was not really anywhere near years later when I discovered Norms link below. Scroll down, it really helped me and perhaps I'm 90% on a good night.

The next clip is my "homework" at the moment. I've been a bit of a rock guitar player and folkish player 20 years+. This is a whole new technique for me ( I use my little finger a lot, one of those self taught bad habits I suppose) any way this tune is driving me (and my wife) mental at the moment. How far have I got? about 2%
