deej Posted March 17, 2008 Share Posted March 17, 2008 I was just wondering if you can damage a pedal by using a higher/lower voltage? Basically, I have a some spare 18v outputs on my power supply, and wanted to know if I could run 9v pedals through them or not? Just thought I'd check cus I dont wanna cause any damage or anything. Although it's possible that some pedals might accept a higher voltage there's no way of knowing if this is the case and if you damaged one then the manufacturer would be well within their rights to say that it states 9 Volts only. (...)[/quote] Higher voltage: yes, a lot of pedals can be damaged - especially if higher voltage means 100% increase. Lower voltage: very unlikely to be damaged. Some pedals are more tolerant (e.g. boosters) to higher voltages but if a pedal has an internal voltage multiplier; almost certainly it will fry with more than the recommended supply voltage. Ironically, it is the voltage multiplier not the circuit itself that is likely to be damaged. In a nutshell, if you are not 100% sure I suggest you don't try.
