What to do?

I took my bass to Waghorn Guitars in Bristol for a set up at and when putting on the new strings I supplied and they cut one of them (A) a little too short so the break angle at the nut wasn't good enough, so it rattles a bit. They've offered to pay for a replacement of the string, but I only know of one place that sells Thomastik Infeld Superalloys in Bristol(that I can walk too), and the guy on the phone wasn't sure if he could sell me a single. What do you guys think I should do if they will only sell me a pack? They seemed like they wanted to sort out the problem, but I don't know if they will pay for a new set of Thomastiks, especially as they are quite pricey.

The bass is currently having some additional work done to the frets at the moment.

Yup, it sounds like they have acknowledged their mistake, and so they can't complain when you explain the situation to them. If they provide an alternative solution (i.e. sourcing the single string from somewhere) then great! If not, they should pay for the pack.
