also the account of a very good friend of mine, who needs sharing as she's too talented for me to not post it here.

Hell yeah, she's talented, what a lovely voice! I've got Taylor Swift in my head when I hear her sing. Anyhoo, your link was broken but I found her page at http://soundcloud.com/jessicalaurensm (too good for people to not find her page).

I've never even considered it to be honest but I use EZdrummer and a host of virtual instruments on my tracks (except the bass of course which is real...). The record function does seem to be in your face but I always consider soundcloud to me a showcase thing rather than a production thing. I guess you could use it to record your band live in which case I can see the use of that (i.e. fans go home, log into soundcloud and listen to the gig they've just been too - THAT would be awesome).
Thanks for the info, virtual instruments was the way I was thinking of going when doing stuff separate from the band. Recording a gig live is a fantastic idea, hadn't even considered that before - I'll have to check that out.

Yeah i've fixed the broken link now, but thanks for pointing that out. I do think she is too good for people not to find it, one of my few friends who are INCREDIBLY talented.

On another note has anyone used Soundcloud to record, or is everyone uploading tracks they have recorded on software or at a studio?
^ Very interesting point... has anyone here used SoundCloud to record? It's always something I've overlooked to be honest - I personally use it as a way to share finished (or more like abandoned!) tracks, and have never really thought of it as a way to record music, although it can of course be used for this purpose.

As Mornats mentioned, it might hold good potential for recording and sharing live music, and very quickly too. I'm going to try this myself next time I'm at a gig :)

I have a friend who sometimes uses it as a platform for field recordings, so this is definitely worth looking into.

Here's mine - a mix of recent live recordings with my funk band and some new solo recordings from me:

^ Cheers Mike, that's some very nice music you have going on there! If you want to join up with the group it's at:

Great idea!

I don't have time to listen to all the links today but will certainly do so over the weekend.

I have one remix I did for 'She Makes War' on mine so far but will add band stuff soon.

Heres another one that i did. I went a bit mental - didn't think about it at all. Couple of bloopers but quite pleased with the result. Played on my Precision Bitsa. It's only about a minute so give it a listen.

Will do.

Good work on the Susan Tedeschi track by the way, I picked up a live Trucks Tedeschi Band gig on CD recently which I really like.

Anyone else noticed how random the soundcloud statistics are? If you go to the "Your Stats" page, the figures on the left of the screen don't match those in the little world map on the right. Neither of these match up with the number of plays against the "You / Sets" and "You / Tracks" pages, and the latter two can be out of sync with each other, even when, as in my case, I've only uploaded one track and created one set with the one track in it. :)

Also, mods, any chance of pinning this thread? I think that, in combination with the Basschat soundcloud group, it could be a really useful part of the site.

I had noticed the same thing, I was wondering if one of the figures was complete plays, in that they had listened all the way through, and another of the figures included all plays even if incomplete. Does seem odd though, even changing the dates doesn't seem to make any more sense of it.

They've mentioned that it's a bug that needs fixing. The detailed view of your stats doesn't update with the real number of listens apparently. I'm also not sure whether it counts me as a listen when I'm logged in and listening to my own stuff.

And +1 for this being a sticky :)

Yeah, I think it counts all plays in the total, even your own.

And another +1 for a sticky!
