I just happened to come across a transcription of the 10cc song, Dreadlock Holiday, released in 1978. Even in notation I recognized the famous intro straight away. I was however puzzled by the rest of it, so purely because it was a boring Sunday morning I went and found the album and looked up the tabs and played it through headphones whilst reading through the tabs to see if what was written seemed to be correct.

The tabs did appear to be correct, but that was by now irrelevant, as i was entranced by the wonderful quirky bubbly bass lines throughout the song. Simply addictive to play and even I leaned the song in half an hour (and have been playing it ever since) So I thought it was selfish of me not to share it with my fellow Basschatters who may not know it, or those like me who may just not have listened to it properly before. I recommend a good quality recording and a decent Hi -Fi or headphones to really appreciate the way the bass line bubbles along through the song, often fitting the words perfectly.

Here is the transcription the tabs and a link to a youtube video, though if you have it on cd i recomend that on a good set of speakers or headphones.

My Feedback

Bass guitars with more than 4 strings
Questioner: How come you never play a 5 or 6 stringer Billy?
Billy Sheehan: "I dont need one, I have my hipshot for lower notes, and I can go to harmonics for higher notes"
Questioner: "do you own any"?
Billy Sheehan: " yes I have two or three, though rarely use them outside an ocassional studio set piece"
"I dont like to use them unless I really have to, as when a guy takes a 5 or 6 string bass into the studio, you see the engineers and producers, sighing and shaking their heads" :) (Smiles)
Billy Sheehan: " I have nothing whatseover against 5 or 6 string basses. I just belive that guys dont give themselves a proper chance on the 4 stringer first."
Questioner: How long is 'a proper chance'?
Billy Sheehan: " At least 20 years" (not smiling here, being serious)

Might give this one a go. Mind you, thanks to 2 Many DJs *this* is how I think it should go...

"The vibes comin' offa Sly and Robbie was terrible...pure terror, the other studios running for cover as Channel One rockers' sound rule the whole scene in Kingston..."

Dreadlock Holiday, fantastic song! I've been playing along with it by ear but maybe some reliable tabs could help me along?
