Bootsy indeed, i remember buying that album just on the strength of that bassline, sadly Bootsy's contribution was the only decent thing on it. BUT still worth it, what a funky track :)

Yeah I agree lol!

Can't remember the name of the song that the bass line originally came from.. would have to look it up.. Was only playing on my MP3 player the other day, I think.

So many 70's / 80's disco songs defined by the bass - how about Boogie Oogie Oogie by Taste of Honey - try you tubing and see if you can find a live version with the girl lead singer also playing the bass line.

Of course many of Jamerson's lines were the real hooks to all of those great Motown classics. Difficult to pick just one, maybe Ain't No Mountain High Enough, original version (the later version is actually my fave but the bass is maybe more dominant in the earlier one)?

the riff for Groove is in the heart was sampled off "bring down the birds" by Herbie Hancock.

I think Bootsy only contributed vocals to Groove is in the heart.
he played live with Deelite though-
I'm afraid I have to be contrary and disagree with most of the suggestions put forward. These are songs with very strong basslines, but they're not defined by their basslines.

Play any of the songs below to the average layman and they'll twig what the song is - I have tested these on my wife.

Money - Pink Floyd - definitely.
O'Jays - For the love of Money
Fleetwood Mac - The Chain
Actually - he's right and kind of what I was alluding to - see the tracks I put forward - play Money to someone and they'll know it instantly. Or Another one bites the Dust, and so on. Some of the songs mentioned have strong bass lines, yes, but are they what people remember the song by? perhaps I should have been more explicit - sorry - sort of where the bass is the lead instrument if you like.

I Was Made To Love Her - Stevie Wonder....Jamerson doing what he did best.
Sir Duke, I Wish - Stevie Wonder....Good ol' Nate!

Pretty much anything off of Jamiroquai's first 3 (Emergency on Planet Earth, Return of the Space Cowboy and Travelling Without Moving)
