The much maligned UB40 (who I generally cannot stand) kicked off with a really good double A-sided single King/Food for Thought. The latter has a really nice bass line. Link below:

Days chasing days, by The Congos

Total pressure hook ... pushes air like a warm storm ... the notes swell so much that they sound almost latent ...

Oh boy… so many to choose from! Here’s some of my favourites – not necessarily the best basslines, but classics in their own way…

Wadada (Means Love): Dub Syndicate

All About Da Weed (Chuck Fenda)

Natural Mystic - like someone said earlier, it's the simplicity. The space then falling onto the root at 2 and 4, with some lovely playing behind the beat. AFMB is the man!

Too Much Too Young (Specials)- one of my favourite basslines ever. Busier than your average reggae bassline, but it works really well. I love the timing.

Guns in the Ghetto (Morgan Heritage) - We use this groove for one of our songs and it's a joy to play.

No No No (Dawn Penn) - Classic and timeless line

Also - Ultra Stimulation (Finlay Quaye) - You can take your pick from this superb album
