I'd actually rather listen to Jessie J's 'Price Tag'

This is the worst thing I've listened to in ages, I would prefer to listen to modern music; I can't stand anything current other than Kasabian and MGMT.

I like Weather Report and loads of other Jazz bands but my Miles Davis double CD has dust on it - pretentious rambling if you ask me. Technical ability isn't music.

Jazz is similar to prog rock for me, I find King Crimson etc fantastic but ELP is the Miles Davis of the prog rock world IMO.

The second one I listen to for fun. I'd like to say I do the first, but he played Bristol and I couldn't be arsed.

Hahaha, my personal favourite is Phil Minton's Feral Choir...

I don't get that bin bag one. Maybe I need better speakers, but it sounds like someone left the petrol generator running outside the window. And people have binbags on their heads. In what looks like a classroom.

Regarding Miles, I didn't mind that set. I tend to listen to Bitches Brew over Kind of Blue much more these days.

I like the Miles Davis Isle of Wight set, though it's not my favourite Miles performance from that era. The stuff on the "Live Evil" album from around the same time is fantastic. It seems like the IOW that year was particularly fraught and chaotic, which might have led to patchy performances from many of the bands present.
I had honestly never associated early 70's Miles Davis with some of the overly showy and technical jazz/rock fusion which came later, as his sets always came across as being satisfyingly loose and messy. I can totally get that it's not everybody's thing though.

Think the recording the pretty limited, the phase/chorus thing is pretty much an artifact of the recording, there isn't that much movement to it.

When people say they are 'stripping back' their music, this is what they are aiming for.

miles was fantastic - worth a dozen jaco's imho :D

try this one - if you dont liek miles skip forward to 3 mins where the sax and bass solos kick in and the groove picks up

Yup fast forwarded to the sax and bass solo, I thought it was a guitar for a while as his tone was so awful.

I just can't stand jazz, and most of the people who play it or sit in clubs nodding along with a face that looks like they are in superior pain. Sorry guys each to there own but nobody will convince me that this is better than Jamerson, or take that ;)

nobody was suggesting that something is better than anything else - its all just varying shades of preferernces and differentness innit :D

personally speaking i completely 'get' holdsworth solos but as for the khanate link above ... i do hope somebody had the decency to check to see if the poor hippy screaming on the floor was ok and didnt need an ambulance or anything drastic ;)
