Not too excited about the PU configuration, though, but it may be because of the split PU's sheen and matte looking 'bucker? I'd use two splits, but anyway it's a wonderful axe! [/quote] That's handy , because I expect you have found like me that a lot of conventional PJs are almost impossible ae to get a workable balance between the two , with notable exceptions such as your Yamaha BBs . [/quote] No but his PingRay was a massive inspiration to me (for the second time) and the whole concept of having the MM in the "correct" position with the D+G coil of the P moved for'd toward the neck is one that I embrace totally. It's an outstanding pickup layout that takes everything that's great about both the StingRay and the Precision and improves on it and makes it possible in one instrument. Not all pickup configurations are entirely useful for me but the important ones that make this a real Swiss Army Knife bass are: P, MM in parallel (StingRay mode), P+J (one of my favourite combos and one the BBs do so well), P + MM in series which serves as a big fat two humbucker type sound. J solo and MM in Series solo aren't much use to me at the moment. Extra versatility is provided by the East MMSR as I love to boost low-mids however one modification is needed before we reach perfection and that's active/passive switching so that a passive P can be acheived. [/quote] I made it last week on a Shuker build course. Comes in just over a grand for cost of course plus preamp pickup upgrades plus Hipshot X-tender.
