Kicking myself that I was too lazy to get my Shergold Marathon pickup to him for the re-wind we discussed.
The Thumper in my Precision is still the best for me of all the many pups I tried.

He remagnetised my Shergold pickup a few years ago, and I bought a J 84 to put on in a bridge position slot that a DiMarzio had previously occupied. Transformed the sound.

Arrr man - what a shame. Great pickups for silly money. All the best to him.

Hear, hear. I love my set of Hammers. I love the image of a wizard sailing away into the sunset... :D

I have a set of his PJ pups (the big version) in my fretless and they sound great to me.

Wizard couldn't help when I was looking for a set of dual coils for my latest bass build so I got Catswhiskers Pickups to make them, they look really great, are UK made and were a good price but I haven't heard them yet as the bass isn't finished so can't comment on the sound, I have a feeling they will be good though.

Happy Retirement Mr Wizard.

It's always such a shame when someone like Andy retires without someone to pass it all on to. All that knowledge and experience, all gone :(

Very much what I was thinking too. Has he sold all his pickup winding equipment?

Wot, this..?

...definitely worth a bob or two in the right hands.

(Disclaimer: The photo is not really his equipment. Only posted for comic effect, already regretted... )

Andy's magic live on in our basses, we are the privileged ones :-)

I just heard about these things earlier today. Raging. The GAFfer pickups sound like the perfect thing to turn a Mexican Jazz Bass into a howling monster.

Any idea if there's a similar alternative? A split-coil humbucker in a J enclosure, preferably British-made, and, y'know, good.

They look nice - but a lot more expensive than Wizards... :(
