Well.
It plays really well, very similar to my mp jaguar.

The colour is awesome. Silverburst suits this bass wonderfully.

It's a pj, with separate volumes for each pup, a master tone, and a separate treble boost.

Both pups sounded nice and punchy, although with the amp I was provided with to try it was not really adequate to test this feature. The inherent sound is lovely though.

The neck is close to both my mp jag in feel and the vm jag I have previously had a play with. It feels as if its unfinished, rather than the gloss of the mp.

All in all I think it's a lovely bass for well under £300. I'd need to give it a thoroughly good play through a significant rig before spending.

Apparently there is 5 string arriving imminently too :)

Isn't the Jaguar a shorter scale? I could be way out here but thought that was the case, if so that's a bit counter-intuative for the low tunings Mastodon use

The Jaguars are 34 inch scale. A lot of Mastodon's stuff is in D standard so it isn't exactly earth shatteringly low. Troy also has different basses set up for every tuning he uses (drop C and drop A generally). I would guess that these basses will just be set up in standard, since the Biffy series of instruments were as well, and Biffy play most of their stuff in drop D/ Drop C-type tunings.

Fender version too!

SICK!!!
A combination of my favourite basses at the mo - my Squier VM Jag and my Fender jag:
P + J pups, active pre (on or off) and master vol and pan pot.
Looks nice with matching h/stock too.
Real nice!!!

Troy's got a good sense of humour too :)

 he's great, I love Mastodon. I REALLY like the look of that Fender one, I have a little GAS building now, like I've had one and a half tins of beans, I can feel that beaner blowin.

Is the Fender one made in USA?

In here Troy says he believes it's going to be made in Mexico: http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/mastodons-troy-sanders-talks-signature-fender-571655 but the official page on Fender's website doesn't say at all.

I like it, especially the dirt-cheap-yet-probably-great Squier but the Squier's active only and I'm looking for a passive bass with single/split coil pups in it.

Does the fender have a passive tone control though? I love it! Just not having a passive tone control would seriously hamper the likelyhood of me getting one. Not that I have any beef with active basses.

I just tried one of these today in Glasgow. I was very impressed. I really like the silverburst finish, and the P/J pickup configuration makes the bass super versatile. I'm big on Fender-style tones and they're pretty much all available from this beast. I plunked, slapped and twiddled knobs for ages and kept finding new tones, all of which I really dug. I was initially after a Squier VM Jazz, but this brute has well and truly made me rethink things. I have to say, this is a helluva bass for the £255 they were asking.

Now, if I can just make peace with the Jag body shape (barf!), I might go ahead and buy one.

If you are in any way curious about this bass, go and try it. I'm a relative novice and so maybe I'm easily impressed, but of all the basses I've tried below £400, the Troy Sanders has impressed me most. I'd also contend that it spanks a Fender Modern Player Jazz. The tones are really that good IMO.
