First time I've been to one of these types of event - great fun. Got to have a go on some lovely basses - thank you for indulging me! Excellent venue, extremely well organised event, thank you!

Now I want a Warwick with all the toys! Better start saving!

(Why is it my basses sound so much better when someone else is playing them :-) )

So lovely to meet some old friends and some new faces. Also nice to chat to some long suffering bass widows, lol :D

Very well organised event. Some tasty gear and some tasty cake. Feel a bit knackered now...glad I'm not gigging tonight like some of you seasoned troupers! :Dz

It seems my update earlier has disappeared so here goes again;

Thanks to the organisers and everyone that attended for making a great afternoon out. It was a pleasure to meet you all and thanks particularly for those that were prepared to let this rank amateur get his hands on your gear.

Thanks also for triggering a previously unacknowledged GAS pocket relating to an EUB. I think I have a lot of work to do with the domestic finance committee before that particular itch can be scratched.

Mrs S is very grateful for your kind words regarding the cakes and you can be sure that we will be happy to provide some more next time we come and meet up with you all.

A really great day, thanks all for coming. In terms of organization, Simon was the one who did pretty much everything, I just took a sort of nodding deputy dog role.
It was great to meet so many lovely people, and thanks to those who let me try their basses - there were some real beauties there. And I didn't have to put my earplugs in once!
Thanks to all who brought food and cakes, and to those who washed up.

Here's to next year
:friends: :friends: :friends: :drinks: :drinks:

Excellent event today. Nice to get out and meet some like minded people and talk gear all day long, my favourite subject.
It was a pleasure meeting everyone shame I didn't get round to everyone, I was either nattering to some else about gear or filling my self with that great fudge cake haha.
Hopefully more the same next year.
I hope no one was bored of me talking about my ACG build (I'm a bit excited for that)
Top guy Simon was for organising and a special thanks to Chris (Roland Rock) for helping get to mad from the bash.

Really, really great fun! Huge thanks to Simon and Chris for organising, and I really hope we do all meet up and do it again next year.

Some highlights of my day:

Jabba the gut's home made basses (especially the one with the spalted top and the Nordstrand dual coils)

72Deluxe playing my MTD AG5 - killer tapping technique, sir!

Annoying Twit's looper in C (Terry Riley pun not intended)

Norris's EUB

Story of the day: the day Charlie Harper blew up Chris Sharman's microwave

Cake of the day: a dead heat between the Apricot Frangipan Tart and the Chocolate Fudge Cake.

… and what the hell is that aubergine purple thing I brought home with me?! None other than the BC Bass Relay banger, ready for a new adventure!

Finally an apology to all wives of bass players now GASing for an EUB!

:D
I'll pass your apologies on to mine! I so nearly got through the whole day without getting a GAS attack, only to fall at the final hurdle, when you let me have a go on it as we were all packing up. Want!

Just woken up the day after the Bass Bash feeling refreshed and energised like I do after a really good gig (remarkable since I fell asleep in front of the toxic candy box that is Eurovision last night), and I didn't have to wrestle with a PA all afternoon.

Many thanks to Si6000 and RolandRock for a super event. Still digesting the many, wildly different basses and rigs I had the pleasure to hear and play. Thanks to everyone who let me plod along on your gear, a great many better players than myself at the Bass Bash.

I didn't expect it when I went down but I came away with a new and previously unconsidered object of GAS. Like clouds parting across the Himalayas to reveal Everest I picked up Zero9's Status graphite necked, EMG loaded Jazz bass and Wow! What a compulsive playing bass with such an expressive and responsive sound. Could have been the quartet of PJB cabs that Zero9 plays it through but... Want, want, want. :gas:

Oh and I came to the realisation that my two favourite basses (as pictured in my avatar) are the boat anchors that everyone speaks of. They've never given me back problems but now I realise they are HEAVY basses... :)

There's probably many more tips, techniques and nuggets of wisdom I gleaned yesterday but my mind is still tumbling it all over. Thanks to everyone who indulged me with your time and gear.

Just to echo others, well done guys for organising and the others who brought stuff to eat & drink. Trying to fight the flab a bit at the moment so had curb my desire to launch myself at Mrs Sharman's quality offerings (did that sound a bit dirty?). OK, I caved and had a rock cake later in the day. Good to chat with folks as ever, I came away like I usually do from these things wishing I'd spent a bit less time nattering and more actually playing a few basses but there will be other meetups in future I'm sure. The precision deluxe remained unclaimed so who knows it might get touted round again some time unless I unleash it on eBay instead.

Thanks for the wonderful event yesterday, the mounds of delicious cake I ate and for letting me play so many different amps and basses. I had never tried a Thunderbird (thanks Norris), MusicMan (who owned that? I have forotten your name and username, great selfmade instruments), or a Status, and it had been ages since playing a Rickenbacker, so thanks! GrammeFriday (Nick?) - thanks for letting me try that TC rig and your MTD, really really easy bass to play, a real joy. (Thanks for the kind words too).

Was that oldman with that really really light fretless? That was lovely. Brian is oldman, right?
And thanks Will for trying out that pjb set up.
Really well organised event, thanks ever so much. Some really lovely gear and sounds. Apologies for almost getting banned for slapping...

Thanks!

If you guys prepare some text to go with a selection of these photos, I can create a blog entry and publish it on Bluejay's Music Blog (under your names, not mine). You could create a photobucket subfolder with a choice of the best from the pics you posted above, and email me a word file with the text, and I can do the rest :)

I'd also like to add my thanks to Si600 and Roland Rock or organising his event - much appreciated.

I haven't been to one before but will definitely going again. It was a really was nice to meet such a friendly bunch of folk and to see and try out various different amps and basses - there was quite an array of completely different kit!

I must admit, I particularly liked Nick's 5 string MTD and TC rig but there was also Wil's Status/Warmoth jazz and PJB cabs, Prime_bass's set-up, 72Delux's Warwicks and playing, Matt's Gretsch Baritone and numerous others.

And not to forget a delicious slice of orange cake (really was very nice)!!

Thanks and look forward to meeting you all again.

Cheers

Jez

The first batch of 14 pictures above, I'll test my memory and label as best I can: apologies in advance for any mistakes:

1: Si excelled himself with printed Bash cards. Hand delivered by Mrs Si!
2: This way! A very handy sign, with easy load in.
3: Barefaced Corner, Prime Bass with his lovely zebrano ACG Graft, Super Compact, Shuttle 9.0 and board of drive craziness! Also my Super Twin, Glockenklang Soul and W&T Ergon,
4: Annoying Twit, either rocking out or passing out with the BC Baton
5: Len Derby having a look at Norris' Ric.
6: The Sharmans visit the Mantons, checking out the quality 32" Manton Custom
7: A couple of beauties belonging to Chairleg
8: Sei fretless and Antoniotsai, with BFM cab and Tecamp Puma 900 - Tauzero's collection
9: Chairleg checks out Norris' EUB
10: Oldman (I think) loads in
11: Marrillionred's Kelly acoustic 5
12: Sod the basses, I want cake!
13: Norris checks out Chairleg's Italia
14: Organiser Si picks up the BC Baton and lays down some grooves through Annoying Twit's own looping software.

...and the next batch of 13 pics. Apologies if I can't remember all names, the day was a bit of a blur of names and faces :-)

1: A decent turnout. Intime Nick on the right (Nike beanie on) chatting to Prime Bass (kneeling)
2: Zero9 having a go on my Ergon
3: Apologies, the name escapes me, but it was a lovely G&L
4: Annoying Twit takes a break from laptops and takes a trip to Warwick corner to see how a full-fat Wick compares to his Rockbass
5: The Hand of John Curley's Gretsch Baritone was a welcome addition to the bash
6: Baritone action through the looper
7: GrammeFriday grooves through the looper on one of his MTDs
8: Norris visits 72Deluxe at Warwick corner
9: Sharman falls for the EUB...
10: ...and tries to convince Mrs Sharman that he needs one. I'd go for the 'tiny footprint' angle myself ;-)
11: 72Deluxe gets joy from Tauzero's Sei fretless
12: Mr and Mrs Manton Customs with a lovely 32" cherry/maple example
13: 16 drivers Zero9? That's just greedy!

I don't want to write too much here as it's sorta off-topic for the thread. But, for those who saw my looper in action, can I just mention that it's now been significantly advanced since Saturday. No more me sticking my head next to the amp so that I can pick up on the 'start' being said by the metronome :) I won't post more details here, but have in the looper thread: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/218120-diy-looper-project
