And here are the rules 'n' stuff…

By entering the competition you agree to the Basschat Terms & Conditions and Forum Guidelines, which are designed to help ensure the forum remains free of offensive and/or illegal behaviour and material. In a nutshell:

1) Please avoid any content that other forum users may find offensive. If your track contains explicit lyrics, for example, then please warn other forum users so they can choose for themselves whether to listen to it.

2) Please make sure you have permission to use any 3rd party sounds included in your track (ie. sounds that you have not recorded yourself, such as samples of other people's music). The owners of Basschat accept no responsibility for infringements of copyright or other forms of legal ownership, which are solely the responsibility of competition entrants. If we spot any breaches of copyright then your track will be removed from the competition.

For reference: here's a great source of copyright-free material, all available under Creative Commons license: http://www.freesound.org/

3) Entries should be no more than five minutes long and written/produced during the month of the competition, taking inspiration from the photo provided. No cheating!

If you have any questions about the competition rules, just ask.

The deadline for entries is midnight on Friday 21st February.

Get to it! :)

Swindle..! This is the same building as last month, from a different angle..! Any minute now and a V8 hot rod will come down the street to a banjo backing..!

Hmm, reflection needed this month. Where's my pipe and slippers..? Oh, no, I don't smoke. Damned..!

 In fact, you can just make out one of the hooded guys on top of the building if you squint hard enough...

I recall seeing a documentary about some of the great Detroit buildings falling to rack and ruin , and if I was not mistaken this building was one of them , stripped bare and looted of plumbing, wiring, timber ,wall and floor tiles, carpet etc a scary thought of the opulence of the industrial corperate power houses of the west , literally being brought back to nature , what a tale to tell .....but what style to tell it in ? and what language ? .................oooh I have an idea .

Bar steward..! Sir..! Sir..? He's nicking my ideas, he is..! He's been lurking over my shoulder, the scoundrel.

Aha..! I'll foil him. I'll turn my screen off; that'll fox 'im all right..! Now then, can I remember where the mouse was just now..? Hmm... Not so easy. Composing ain't simple when one's deaf; gets worse when blinded.

Innit..?

Nearly always by some weird tangent!

I came across this pic while browsing some articles online while waiting for the vote to finish on Friday night… ended up reading about what's happened to Detroit since the city went bankrupt… and how there's a new campaign encouraging US companies to outsource there as a way of stimulating growth… etc. And there it was! So I thought, "that'll do nicely".

Hopefully it's open to lots of different ideas. The interior of the building is like the film set of an apocalyptic movie, but I felt it might be a wee bit too dark and nihilistic for a dreary February.

Anyway, it's a stunning building. Make of it what you will! ;)

Yes, another couple of (almost...) sleepless nights and a fair bit of daylight hours too, have gone into this...

...which is (you've guessed, haven't you..? :D ) my contribution to the February Challenge. Are we allowed train or station puns..? No..? Thought not. Never mind; enjoy... :)

Here's my submission - Remember This Station

Funnily enough, when I set out to write this I had a completely different idea in mind (dark and doomy) but when I went to the rack to pick a bass for the track I accidentally picked up my fretless. "What the hell" says I "Lets see what happens". Turned out quite a bit more optimistic sounding than I'd originally planned. :)

Just trying to mix mine, but have had an ear infection for a couple of weeks and I am deaf in one ear, its really doing my head in now :dash1: Started with a dark idea about the picture, but it has gone completely the opposite way and turned out quite upbeat. Will post it as soon as its finished, the mix may be a bit messed up though :)
