An absolutely outstanding instrument, quite literally a Super Precision or Super Jazz whichever way you choose to look at it. Handmade in Japan, I seriously doubt you'l buy a better bass for under £5k. Original thread at http://basschat.co.u...b2024mx-traded/, and thread about the bass - why I bought it and why I'm selling it - at http://basschat.co.u...2024mx-content/. A stunning instrument in every possible way, and no doubt rather rare with a maple board.
I'm ideally looking for a straight sale but could also do with a small DB-friendly combo (Markbass/PJB) in PX

I've just played it. I've owned a lot of decent basses - Fender AVs and Custom Shop, Sadowskys, Ric C64S and v63, Modulus Fleas, EBMM BFR Stingray, as well as a lot of vintage instruments (Pre CBS Precisions, Pre EB Stingrays etc). I can say hand on heart that this really is an outstanding bass even compared with the list above. I now need to sell it to fund a couple of other music related projects. Wish I didn't

stunning beedster stunning!

Thanks Luke, it's both a looker and a player.

I've had a few PMs re trades. With apologies I definitely DO NOT want any more basses, I'm happy to arrange a deal with a decent, small but relatively high power combo (e.g., Markbass 1x12/1x15, PJB Super Flightcase, Mesa Walkabout, Ibanez Promethean) with cash my way.

Cheers

Chris

I own and have owned all kinds of high-end, upmarket basses of various types, and these basses really are up their with the very best of them. Think NYC Sadowsky/ USA Lakland/ Aleeva Coppollo / F Bass kind of quality, both in terms of sound and build , and you are getting some idea of the kind of level these instruments are on . They really are one of the best basses that money can buy, and as such are a bit of a bargain even at the full retail price. This is a mint condition example with a known ownership history of being well looked- after and hardly used , and with the added appeal of being the incredibly rare MX version with a maple fingerboard, all at a very reasonable price . As such, this bass will make some new owner very happy rather soon, I expect.

One of the best and most appealing basses I have ever seen for sale on Basschat. GLWTS.

Many thanks Dingus, goes without saying that I agree with all of the above

I'd certainly put this bass well above the two Sadowsky Metro Precisions which I guess would put them in Sadowsky NYC league, and in terms of leagues, it's in an entirely different one to the Fender Custom Shop basses you'd find in a similar price range. This bass really is a wolf in sheep's clothing (TBH I've found most FCSs I've owned to be sheep in wolf's clothing by comparison)

Is the neck closer to a P or J bass? Beautiful bass btw
Probably closer to a Precision, I'll try to post exact width and depth dimensions later

I was really sceptical about these until I actually played one. So much nicer than I imagined, a really top quality instrument!
Likewise, I was sceptical about this and about Yamaha generally, but man they know how to build a bass. IMO nothing Fender have done gets even close to this instrument, and I've played a lot of top end Fenders.

I may have found a way of keeping both this bass as well as its proposed 4001 replacement which would be ideal, just waiting for confirmation of a gig (of sorts!)

Ooooh if I had the cash! I have the BB1024X, and it is fantastic. Better than the fenders and stingrays to my ears.
And for all those reasons I've decided to keep it. The 'I don't need it' argument is short sighted as I will no doubt need it at some point, and the balance of classic/contemporary styling with classic/contemporary sounds means that it's going to sit comfortably in a number of settings.

I feel better already :)
