As far as I know, EBMM black pickguards are always in a shiny gloss finish (see e.g. the one in my avatar pic) but the one on your bass looks to be in some kind of matt finish. I've just found answers to my questions 3 and 4 above: according to [url="http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/TOWN8019/mycustompage0029.htm"]http://myweb.ecompla...tompage0029.htm[/url] it looks as though your bass was born in 2003, which means that it has a ceramic pup (SR5s went back to alnico in 2008, according to Basschatter stingrayPete1977, who really knows his stuff).
