Alembic AXY matched pickups now £200 £250

I imported this set of Alembic vintage pickups and the plan was to install them in an Ibanez musician but didnt have the heart to route the holes in a mint bass so here they are. Great for any bass and they dont need the active alembic pre amp to work. They cost me over £300 with postage and import tax so after (price drop ) £200 posted.Cheers

All alembic pickups are low impedance and to get the best out of them you will need a low impedance pre-amp. Yes you can get some sound out of them without it but the level will be low and you won't be getting the full benefit of them.

Do you know what type they are as there are two types that alembic use both of which are low impedance. True Single coil and hum canceller pickups.

If they really are vintage pickups and have come from one of the series basses, they will be true single coil pickups and they were designed to work with the alembic hum-canceller circuit that those basses have so I'm not sure how well they would work without that system or indeed with a passive bass. If they are from a non series bass they will be the hum-cancelling pickups which I know from personal experience can be used successfully with ACG pre-amps. And due to the fact ACG has low pass filters you will get an alembic type tone from them.

These were bought as AXYs so that would make them hum cancelling,the series l/ll were true single coils pickups according to Alembic with dummy hum canceler. Your right that it will need a low impedance pre or booster like the Boogieman,but cause they are wound hotter they will work with most preamps too.Albeit a lower output though>

I'm after a set of these myself to upgrade a 5 string bass but I need the bigger AXY 5/6 pickups or the fat boys equivalent I already have an ACG Pre-amp to use. I'm sure they will work with a number of non alembic on-board pre-amps but they are not wound hot at all which is why you need the low impedance pre-amp to get the best out of them. They have significant less coils than regular pickups and the hum cancelling design is not the same as hum bucking pickups where both coils have a magnet. Each Alembic AXY's has only one coil with a magnet that picks up the string movement and the other coil has no magnet and just picks up noise which is then cancelled out. I used two of the [color=#383838][font=Oxygen][size=4]ACG EQ02 pre-amps, one for each pickup though as far as I'm aware they are not made any more.[/size][/font][/color]
