Greggo Posted April 7, 2014 Share Posted April 7, 2014 (edited) I recently lightly sanded down a high gloss neck to get it more satin feel, but haven't really reaped that many benefits in terms of it being easier to play and now just looks a bit odd where the finish is different and it's annoying me! Is there a way, if I decide to, to get the sanded part buffed back to the same glossiness of the original? What would I need? Manton Customs Posted April 8, 2014 Share Posted April 8, 2014 If its a poly finish it should buff back up as long as you didn't scratch it too deeply, micro mesh or automotive polishing compound should both work. icastle Posted April 9, 2014 Share Posted April 9, 2014 For me, gloss appears to be the default setting no matter what the original finish was. All but one of my basses started off with satin necks and they all end up with a high gloss finish within a month of using them. It's a good job I don't scratch my head very often.
