London Calling

been playing London Calling for ages now, but I never thought I'd quite nailed it, just had a good listen to the verse using audacity to move it up an octave and slow it down and I reckon it's
G |------------------------------------------------------
D |-------------------3-----------------------------------
A |--2slide7--202---- 202--------------------
E |-----------------------------3--------------------------
none of the tabs I've seen have it like this, anybody else play it like this?

I'd imagined it as:

G |------------------------------------------------------
D |--------------------10--------------------------------
A |--2-7--10-7-10------2-7--10-7-10---------------
E |-----------------------------------------8-------------
That's how I have always been doing it as well

that's the intro/outro the verse is different, the bit that starts "London Calling to the faraway towns"

Pretty certain it stays high after the slide up. This is supposed to be the isolated track:

and here's Paul with what you might call a roadworn bass:

A friend of mine owns one of his paintings :)

EDIT: Ahhh you mean the verse not the intro. Yep it's the way you're saying.

Edit, nearly the same different position :)

D |----------------------------------------------------
A |--7-7-----------8-8---------------
E |----------0575--------0575---33----0575----33-------------------------

don't think that's the actual isolated track I'm pretty sure he doesn't play 2F's and 2G's till the guitar solo.

having seen a film of Paul playing it I think that's probably the position he plays it in though I'm not sure about the open E and I think the triplet is BAB not ABA, and again 1F and 1G till the guitar solo, and in the slide up from B to E (which you don't show) he doesn't play another E till the solo, just the way I'm hearing it obviously

yes i used to watch him as well thrashing it down around his knees..Good days indeed
yeah, just watched the smart arses on you tube doing the 10 7 10 bit on the intro, they're all sitting down with the bass under their chins, like to see them try it standing up with the bass as low as Paul has it.
I see what you mean now about the open E before the triplet, still think it's BAB though

Never tried it but have you tried the amazing slow downer? Simply the best tool for working out sh*t, if you don't want to have to use tabs
no not tried that, is it better than Audacity? Just checked loads of tabs on the net, they're all wrong

It's incredible, it slows down music as much as you want without changing the pitch. It's free for the trial version, then only about 30 quid for the full version. It's quite simply the best tool for working out complicated pieces of music!

Google it on Yahoo, Just type in " the amazing slow downer " Brill ;)

Think you might be right Paul with that part starting on the B :) ... funny I have been playing it wrong all these years .. you can teach an old dog new tricks
I've been playing it a lot wrong for years, when I played it right for the rest of the band they couldn't tell any difference, nobody else notices when it's not quite right but we know ;)

maybe so, but so are the rest of the band and most of the crowd fortunately, it's sad fact of life that most people hardly hear the bass except when it's not there, and certainly don't notice if the odd note is not quite right

Sorry if I offended you. It was meant as a joke.
