NOW WITHDRAWN WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT. 18 DEC 2014

I am virtually not playing anymore, so I am thinning the herd and downsizing my collection. Hence, NO TRADES / PX, please. This is your opportunity to own a prestigious instrument at a realistic price (it would cost almost three and a half grand to get a new one shipped to your door from New York!!).

Beautiful Sadowsky NYC 4-string bass in excellent overall condition, born Feb 1997. Alder body in trans Olympic White (now showing a creamy tone), morado fingerboard (aka pau ferro / bolivian rosewood). The tone is a little warmer than the bright ash / maple combination. Weight is only 3.7-3.8 kg.

Adjustable string spacing Schaller bridge (very useful, standard on Sadowsky basses at that time), frets dressed, Hipshot D-tuner, tort half pickguard (a transparent identical replacement could be available from Roger Sadowsky). Neck pickup chrome cover included.

Maurilio Mina (bass player, professional luthier and techie/repair guy for Nordstrand basses in USA - see his shop on Facebook or through Google) has:

1) added the tone pot (VTC - Vintage Tone Control, working in active and passive mode) with orange drop capacitor and push/pull for active/passive, so controls are volume / balance / 2-eq / VTC;

2) installed a 500K volume pot for a sound closer to single coils from the hum-cancelling pickups in '60s position;

3) updated the hex trussrod to the (much easier to use!!) spoke wheel,

bringing the bass exactly to Sadowsky's current specifications (great job Mo!!).

Two little dents on the body (one on the edge near the jack and one on the upper contour, none on the front or back, and none of the usual buckle rash through the finish either) and a little localised discoloration on the back of the neck (where the fine layer that Sadowsky traditionally uses for the back of the neck is starting to thin off, behind the 3rd / 4th fret, although it's so smooth that you cannot feel it when playing). Overall in excellent condition for a bass of this age and hours of trustworthy service! Additional pictures (included the two small dings and the back of the neck) at

Coming from a smoke / pet / child-free environment (but not booze-free... LOL), with the original, fully working semi-hard Sadowsky case.

A new Sadowky NYC starts at around 4,000 USD (plus scratchplate and D-tuner, price list at www.sadowsky.com), plus insured shipping, plus UK VAT and import duty (around 24% of the total), bringing the total cost to around £3,500. This is the most attractive price you have ever seen for a NYC, and availability is in general very low for a second hand one, so do your maths.

Price is REDUCED TO [s]£1799[/s] A FINAL £1650 + £40 shipping. No Paypal, sorry, bank transfer only. The cost of shipping (tracked and insured) is for UK mainland only and may exclude certain postcodes (the real cost is actually higher due to the insurance, but I will pay the difference in order to remain competitive). Alternative delivery methods may (or may not) be available for Scottish buyers, please contact me in advance to discuss possibilities on an individual basis.

For any matter or question, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Although always reachable, I may be away from home for the occasional day or two, sorry for any delay and inconvenience this may cause.

Thank you.

THE POSTS ABOVE HAVE BEEN EDITED TO REFLECT THE REDUCED FINAL PRICE: £1650 + £40 shipping (bank transfer only, please).

The bass will also be periodically on eBay. When an auction on eBay has started I prefer not to pull it and will let it run to the end.
