They do turn up every so often and are usually fairly affordable, asking prices around the 500 mark. I've seen a couple on here over the last few years, both the original, solid paduak body and the later, more common, mahogany with paduak top.

The first version of the K5 bass is virtually identical to the second SR1305, but made in Korea rather than Japan. These are usually easier to find and around the same price. The second K5 is similar, but solid mahogany and with a different finish.

Ibanez currently do a huge range of SR's in all sorts of woods and specs. Give their website a look and you might find something you like.

I really like those older japanese SRs, very high quality instruments that imho usually sell far below their value.

If you're looking for current japanese made SRs I think there's only the SR400X/500X prestiges. Though the indonesian made SR120X/140X/160X/180X premiums are also pretty nice instruments.

Oh, and btw: I myself might be selling my 90s SR7005 soon, since I'm thinking about switching to fanned fret instruments exclusively....so if someone should be looking for something like that... ;)

I don't play fivers but my 4 string MIJ SR1300 (paduak/mahogany sandwich version) is a most incredible bass. Extremely high quality

This was mine briefly and I concur. It's an absolute peach in terms of action, looks and sound. If I played 4's it would still be mine. It oozes quality.

I'm glad you still have it and it found a good home.

I've been looking for a 1305 or 1306 for quite some time. They're rare beasts. I have an 1206 right now and it's a great bass, with the Nordstrand Big Singles, but I'm still craving a bit of mid-90s padauk goodness. :)
