Hi

I'm Matt, 19, from England. I played guitar in the past at school but in all honesty I have never played bass at all, I messed about with it sometimes back at school but never got as far as tabs or any tuition. However, I really want to start learning so thought I might as well come here from the off to get into it. I'm heading into town tomorrow to have a look at some basic and cheap models and also browsing tabs to songs I know well and watching any useful videos I can.

It's only within the past two or three years that I've properly started getting into music, and was drawn in to how quiet and reserved the bassists in my favourite bands (Randy Meisner in the Eagles and Judas Priest's Ian Hill) were but how solid and dependable they were at their job. I really liked the out of the spotlight but essential nature of the instrument and now that I have two months off from uni for summer I thought I might as well actually do something useful with my life, so I'm here to hopefully get started on what was probably a dream I never realised I had!

Cheers

Good evening, Matt, and ...

... to the forum. Lots to enjoy here.
Just a tip (take it or leave it, of course...)... As you're only just starting out on this venture, you might like to turn your hand to reading music for the bass. It's far easier than you think, I would suggest, especially if you start from scratch. It won't prevent you from playing at all, but will help you enormously later on as you progress (as you surely will...). It costs nothing; plenty of resources on line, and lots of folks here to answer any queries you might have. Just a thought...
