Ibanez Blazer fretless - £[s]220[/s] New Price - £175 delivered

Good evening basschatters.

I've decided to sell my Ibanez Blazer fretless. I don't really have a need for a fretless for gigs, and whilst it is rather good fun to have a plonk on every now and then, I'd quite like to release some funds tied up in it (primarily to balance the books after the recent acquisition of a Squier Jazz Deluxe V...) As such, no trades thank you.

It's not fretless from the factory, a previous owner has de-fretted it and added a coat of some sort of hard wearing varnish to the fingerboard. They've done a reasonable job, there's a few bits where the varnish has crept on to the edge of the neck, but it plays nicely. The action is not quite as low as I'd like, but I'm sure a professional setup would be of benefit.

The plating on the hardware is a bit worn and tarnished but all functional, and there's some rust on the screws and the pickup pole pieces.

When I got the bass, it was looking rather tired and unloved, in a rather dull looking burgundy finish. The scratchplate was broken and it was generally looking rather tatty. After having it knocking about for ages, I decided last year that it needed a bit of a tidy up. I took it to pieces, sanded the body back to the natural wood finish, and gave it a couple of thin coats of varnish. As you can see in one of the pictures, there's some discolouration on the underside of the neck in the usual high-traffic area. There's also a hint of the burgundy still visible in the grain of the wood, but, in my opinion, it's looking much more presentable! I also replaced the scratchplate with one from basschat's "The Bass Doc".

The electronics look very simple compared to those of my other basses, but the growly tone that comes from the Blazer is lovely. It's strung with flats, which were new when I sanded the body last year. It's hardly been played since then, so they still sound nice and fresh.

I'm not sure what effect the previous butchery of the fretboard might have on the value, but I'm looking for £220 to start with, which I think is reasonably priced compared to the few I've seen for sale lately.

I have a soft gig bag which I can throw in, but it's not a padded one so I'd suggest getting something more substantial if you were going to be carrying it around a lot.

I would really prefer any potential buyer to come and view the bass and make sure they're completely happy with how I've described it and what they are getting. I'm based in Norwich, but I do travel a bit with work, so I may be able to bring it to you by prior arrangement if I'm going to be in your area. I've got a couple of trips to the Reading and Guildford areas in the next two weeks if that's any help.

If there's anything else you'd like to know, please don't hesitate to post or send me a PM, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Here's some pictures...

During sanding. Those cutaways were a pain to sand!

Had a request for a sound clip, so here's a quick video. Apologies for the poor quality phone video, scruffy attire, and general rubbish-ness at playing a fretless :) Hopefully gives you some idea what the thing sounds like though.
