Yet Another Grit Question...

I bought a Boosta Grande with the intention of using it to push the preamp valves in my Fusion for when I need a little lift... you know what I mean... \m/ \m/ ...However, I've found that I like what the Boosta does so much that I want it 'always on'...

Now I'm back to square one, basically. So I ask the Basschat FX massive... what's a good, natural-sounding pedal that won't lose me any top or bottom and that will give me a bit of break-up when I want it? Preferably one that will keep most of my original tone completely intact and add something rather than subtract or change anything.

It can be quite big and bold too - I'm in a rock band, a three-piece plus vocal. I've read all the countless SansAmp/Tech-21/VT Bass/BDI-21 threads over the years (and have owned a VT Bass, a DHA VT1 and still have a BDI-21) and am looking for something a little bit different... I'm not really looking for the 'Ampeg Sound'.

Well I am, but only from an SVT CL or a V4B, but that's another story...

I thank you! :)

I liked the EBS Billy Sheehan demo and also liked the Ibanez Bass Tubescreamer demo. From personal use the only pedal I`ve used that keeps the original tone virtually intact was the DHA VT1. Just added "fur" to the sound, making it less clinical.

Edit - just checked out that COG Knightfall, looks like it does the exact job you`re after Mark.

Would this do the job? https://www.youtube....h?v=gv67iwFYKKc

Yes, I'm sure it would. Obviously I'm going to have to think this through a bit more and audition some pedals... ohh.

I like the sound of the GK Diesel Dawg but it may be too gritty for you but could be worth a look sounds cool on lower settings https://www.youtube....h?v=uoOu0Uww4WE

or this?

It may well be too gritty, but hard to tell from that vid - I don't like that guy's clean tone much to begin with. Though it's hard to tell anything much from YouTube at the best of times, so...

Not bad, and more affordable... again it's hard to tell just by listening on t'interweb. Going to have to get some in and try them out.
Thanks for the suggestions. :)

...checkout the SolidGold FX Beta, very cool, although it does lose a tiny bit of the highs.
The Beta looks amazing, retro on a stick! :) Love the sound of it too. This is the way to do a YouTube demo, imho.

Thanks for this... :)

Subscribe to the Prymaxe email list, they're always doing 15 or 20% off site-wide. My Beta cost about £88 all in! Took a week to arrive :)
Thanks for this Si, excellent. :) Even cheaper and quicker than I thought. Think I'm going to have to go for it. I don't want a full-on Doom-style disto-type effect - I'm very happy with my tone as it is, I just need a bit of an edge at certain points in the songs - but with warmth. Seems ideal.

Solidgold - what a great video demo. If Carlsberg did pedal demos on Youtube...
It is good - I'm generally of the opinion that it's impossible to make a proper appraisal of basses, amps or effects pedals on YouTube for many reasons - not least the variable quality of the end-users' monitoring equipment - but SolidGold's effort is very creditable. They've got their marketing well sorted. :)

And in my opinion if they've taken the time and trouble to produce a decent product vid, I tend to suspect that they have taken time and trouble with their product, too. Illogical of course, but you can see how that works.

Anyone had anything from Prymaxe? How long did it take to arrive?
I ordered an MXR bass filter from Prymaxe. I chose the cheapest shipping option, $16, USPC snail mail. It arrived in 8 days! I was expecting something like 3 weeks TBH, so very happy. And, after bank holiday discounts and including shipping, the pedal cost me £82 new. Would have been £130 here. And the pedal is awesome. That's a result on all fronts I think. I'll be using them again.

Thanks for this! Now I know why everyone orders from Prymaxe... no-brainer, really. :)
