Recording purring cat

That doesn't sound quite right! I think there are plenty of other frequencies in there too which a decent large-diaphragm mic should pick up. Our present cat isn't much of a purer, but our previous cat seemed to purr on 2 distinct basic frequencies!

I would have thought the main problem would be to get the cat to purr to order...

Electrovoice RE20 - there's no proximity effect, so you can get the mic as close as the feline will allow, and there'll be very little change in the EQ of the recorded signal.

Failing that, any large diaphragm condenser should do a more than passable job.

My main problem with recording cat noises is that ours flips between 'affection' and 'disembowel' modes quite randomly.

Hi guys,

this might sound a bit odd but any idea how to record a purring cat? I looked up that the purr frequency varies between 18-28Hz, depending on a cat. What microphone could pick it up? Thanks ;)

iPhone Voice Memo Recorder on the kitteh's chest.

What about trying to DI the cat?

Not sure it will plug straight in. You may need to look for an adapter on Ebay - maybe Thomann has a few in stock.
