Speaker wire polarity

Recommended Posts

I'm connecting a single speaker to a amplifier, the speaker terminals are clearly marked positive and negative, the amp is not, one wire is black with a red stripe and the other is red, I'm guessing that the solid red is positive but if not does it make any difference when wiring up an amp with just a single speaker?

With a single speaker, not really, though it's a good idea to go with the convention in case you add more speakers later and want then to be in phase.

I reckon your guess about the colours is right though.

Still, as you can't do any harm by reversing the polarity, why not try both ways and decide which sounds best?
