Anyone tried these quarter round LaBella?

I'm looking for something a bit more thumpy than roundwounds to put on a j that I've got incoming, kinda tempted by the status half rounds that everyone raves about but they feel a bit too 'stainless steel' like under my fingers, I'm used to nickel or flatwound and stainless steel roundwounds do seem to dislike my fingers...

are there any half round nickel strings out there? or should I just put flats on the j and thump it up??

D'addario do a set of nickel half rounds. I have a set on my Overwater and they are lovely strings. Strings direct sell them.

Status halfs are stainless steel. There have been a number of reports on here, including me, that have had experience of dud E strings. They replace them when asked but it shouldn't happen in the first place.

do you notice the difference between a 105 e string and a 100 gauge e string?

@andydye - those strings you've linked to are short scale; just in case you were thinking of ordering that set for your Jazz...

 oops, yes I spotted that, thankfully I haven't ordered any yet

I use the 40-95 with a 30 C string. When i've used 100 Es before I can't really say I notice much difference from a 105. It's only .005 of an inch after all.

Personally, I'd go for a lighter set just to compensate for they lack of flexibility compared to rounds. Also their higher tension will mean a lot of adjustment is required if you simply go from 45-105 rounds to 45-105 halfs or flats.
