Wilson Ventures VM-65

I’ve always wanted a Mosrite, so when I saw this Ventures-inspired guitar in my local shop it was love at first sight. That was January, and so far it’s been out of its new gigbag about three times for some lounge noodling – effectively as it was when I saw it. Still has the protective plastic on the scratchplate…

As the sticker suggests, it’s made in Korea. The tremolo appears to be modelled on the Strat rather than a Jaguar-type contraption (which, as a former Jag owner, I hated). The 22 fret bolt-on neck is a small C style with a rosewood fingerboard.

Pickups are Seymour Duncan versions of the P-90, controlled by volume and tone knobs and a three-way selector. The Ventures have endorsed Wilson’s guitars, so needless to say it can do surf music effortlessly – but is surprisingly adaptable and very poky.

The agathis body has the trademark carve that made this guitar iconic and is finished, as you can see, in a beautiful deep red.

I shall probably buy a bass version, as I love the look. Sadly, I have had to admit I am no longer a six-string player…

This as new model comes with an equally new luxury padded gig bag at £175 - 60 per cent off the new price.
