Hi Sky Saw, I was in the same place as you a few months back. I started this thread to get some info and had really helpful feedback from the people on here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/230165-thomann-dbs-any-good-as-a-first-bass/page__fromsearch__1

Here's the thread from when the DB arrived http://basschat.co.uk/topic/232367-new-double-bass-day/page__fromsearch__1

Good luck with the DB, you wont regret it.

Thanks for the comments everyone and buzzy I have read your threads about the bass before with much interest. Yes I've looked at gedo and that may be somewhere to investigate further. I have to admit the thomann 22 sounds slightly nicer to my untrained ear than the thomann 33 though I believe the thomann 33 is fully carved spruce compared to the 22 which is carved spruce top and laminate maple back and sides - what difference would I notice between the carved 33 bass and part carved 22 bass in terms of the sound or anything else, thanks Sean.

The 33 is a lot of bass for money....but...personally I'd rather have a better built hybrid for the same price, as a general guide but not always fully carved will sound better on its own but not make much difference in a band setting, carved tend to suffer feedback more than hybrids, hybrids tend to suffer more than ply basses. Ply basses can normally take a bit more abuse and the thing that would concern me on a brand new budget carved bass would be splits and joints opening up within the first few years. Each bass will sound very different due to loads of variables, sound post position, strings, bridge placement, construction etc. It was because of that I wanted a bass with adjustable bridge and ebony board so it can always be set up properly in future. :) Probably more confused than before now? Lol

Good evening, Sean...

I suppose you've already had a good look through the DB For Sale section of the forum..? There's quite a variety of offers, for various budgets. Nowt in there to tempt you..? Just sayin'... :)
