Stuck a pic of this in the Porno section , but thought I'd post more here.

I bought this this fairly recently from a warden at Barlinnie Prison. He said he'd bought it from someone how said it'd been used on a Tears for Fears album - there you go!

I reckon it'd been stored in a garage/shed /loft as it need some drying out and one of the pots was knackered. Thanks to Bassassin's help it probably dates back to 1987/88.

A couple of the tuners were also a bit knacked so I stuck on a couple I had from another Jazz.

It's now been set up nicely, I like the sound but it's a little low output & thought about changing the pickups but I think i'll leave it for now.

I must say it's a quality bass, I'm told that the finish is of questionable taste!!

Any one else got experience of Fenix?

There's an old Fenix thread here in case you hadn't seen it; http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1

I've got E737656 - very much like yours but all black B) never seen the crazy paving finish before :D

Cheerz, John

EDIT: Just noticed it's in my signature, yes I reckoned mine's '87 so as Jon says - most likely 87-88, only 278 difference in the numbers :)

Yeah I had a Fenix Jazz as my first bass, bought it in around '91 from a second hand shop in Tooting (London) for the princely sum of £90.

It was a good playing bass, really nice action. The electronics were so-so from what I remember, not bad, but a bit of hum.

I only played it for a year or two before saving up and getting a Musicman Stingray and it never saw the light of day after that....its been on permanent loan to a friend for the past decade or so. But a great bass for the money.
It's one of my 'work in progress' basses  as it was part sanded when I got it I thought I'd strip it & refin, well I started - but - - -. I got a Squier fretted neck in good nick to replace the poor defretted mess, machined the tuner holes to take the originals & put a decal on - NOT FENDER! - & sprayed the head. I'll get & do some more soon - - - - - :D

I have a Fenix maple neck Jazz from late 80s. It sounds incredible. The stock PUs are the weak point, though. As mentioned before very low output, microphonic, not very detailed. I swapped mine to Rockinger PUs which turned out to be a huge improvement. Couldn´t be happier with a 180€ bass + 110€ PUs.

Go on lets see it then! :)

Yeah I think the pickups will need to be changed - is it easily done? there's a lot of wires in there!
