artisan Posted October 12, 2014 Share Posted October 12, 2014 i run 2 pickups on my double bass via a stereo TRS lead into my 2 channel preamp-mixer then a mono lead into my amp. last night i noticed that my preamp had become microphonic, i.e. if i tapped it the tapping sound was sent to my amp ? this has never happen before i also couldn't get my usual deep/rich bass sound & instead had a crappy honking middy kind of sound. i wondered if a bad earth on my TRS lead could cause this,any advice. cheers btw my pickup & preamp system is the Blast Cult Channel Blaster Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
BassBod Posted October 12, 2014 Share Posted October 12, 2014 Could be the cable but my guess would be a dirty contact - either a jack socket (input) or sometimes power/battery connector. rmorris Posted October 12, 2014 Share Posted October 12, 2014 (edited) Okay. Just took a look at the weblink. Fair bit of 'marketing speak' on there. So, to be clear. the transducers are part of the Blastcircuit system ? And the microphonic noise appears to be caused by tapping the preamp (ie not the pickups themselves). If that's the case then first suspects would be capacitors esp Electroytics then Ceramics ... Try tapping them with a pencil and see if that makes a noise though the amp... artisan Posted October 14, 2014 Author Share Posted October 14, 2014 hi thanks for that i know nothing about electronics so will get a local chap to check it out as i wouldn't know a capacitor from anything else in there. i noticed last night whilst i was messing around that when switched on it also makes a constant hissing noise.
