Entry level pricing only please. Working on a project and this will be the last piece of the puzzle. Is there any difference between the below two that would justify the extra?

Here's another alternative:

Sound-On-Sound review here:

In my experience, all of Orchid's products are very good value, and really good.

IMO Radial products are laughably overpriced. [ducks for cover...]

A good passive DI box run in reverse will do just as well, plus you can use it as a DI for recording.

Any recommendations you have for this? used my mates gear to record so far and do not know what DI he has.

Cheers.

I've got the Palmer D'Accapo and it works very nicely with the balanced output from my interface. It has a ground lift and output level trim as well. All-in-all very good value for £60 new from Amazon (EDIT: when I got it last year - price has gone up a little since then). I have no experience with the Radial RMP but as they're both passive devices based around the original Cuniberti design, I shouldn't expect too much in the way of difference. YMMV etc

Radial also do the XMP which is an active version, but again I have no direct experience. Besides if this is a one-off project, the Palmer may be a cheaper way of getting the results you're after.

Let us know how you get on :)

Ian

I use DI boxes by Emo Systems both for live and studio work. They are not particularly cheap, but they are built to withstand pretty much anything - I got my first one second hand about 25 years ago and apart from most of the printing having worn off it's still performing perfectly.

The reverse DI trick only works with passive, transformer based DIs - those that don't need a battery or phantom powering to make them work.
