Hi from David McKay - a big Pino Palladino fan

Had a couple of basses about 20 years ago. Dabbled but never seriously.

Now approaching 50, looking to learn fretless and try to emulate (albeit at a very rudimentary level) Pino's sound on the Paul Young 'No Parlez' album.

For me this was when I first heard the bass as a creative instrument as opposed to a 'backing element'. No disrespect to bassists the world over - I'm simply trying to articulate the effect that Pino's playing, sound, tone and texture had on me. This wasn't bass guitar - this was music!

Do you feel the same?

Can you point me towards anyone else who has a similar playing style?

On a related note I watched Pino playing with The Who, and as much as I respect Pino - he seemed misplaced. Naturally this is subjective but there you go. My post - my rules!

Anyways - back to the beer. It won't drink itself you know!
