Bassmonkey Posted November 25, 2014 Share Posted November 25, 2014 I am pulling together a Fender Musicmaster bass. Have a 78 body and have managed to acquire 2 pickguards. The first one I got is the bottom one and lines up with all screw holes wings come slightly up around the neck pocket. The second one I got is a different. Seems to be missing a screw hole on the middle top edge and fits straight across the neck pocket. I have been looking back at for sale models and seems there are a mixture of both styles? Anyone know if they changed at a certain point or were randomly fitted. Keen to retain authenticity as near as I can but the second one is in slightly better condition so would prefer that. tony_m Posted November 25, 2014 Share Posted November 25, 2014 Not very scientific I realise, but the one fitted to my '77/78 Musicmaster (S/No. S83nnnn) is the lower style, with the screw hole at the middle of the top edge, so if I had to choose between them, this is the one I'd say was correct.
