What's up with the jacks on them? I've not had a problem with them.

I've owned (cough) ...a few Warwicks and I have to say that without exception each and everyone has either arrived with a dodgy socket or it has developed a fault (and no it is not my lead/me). The caveat being that I've not owned many post 00's basses but the socket issue isn't as a result of the basses I have had being ancient because I once ordered three new sockets direct from Warwick and they failed within a few years; fitted Soundcraft units and they are still going strong (inc' one that I have had for 20+ years: original socket failed 2 years after manufacture, replacement Soundcraft still going strong).

I havent played any of the newer Warwicks, so i can't comment on whether the quality is better/worse.
But i would say if you are thinking of investing in a Warwick. i'd go second hand.
I have a '87 NT Stage 1 Streamer, and someone described it to me like the Swiss army knife of basses, and i couldnt agree more.
Its so versatile, i love it.
I also have a '89 NT Thumb. Again, a fantastic bass, but a bit more "marmite".

Spot on , couldn't agree more.
I have a 88 streamer and twice in the last 6 months I've had sound men asking me to name my price for it.
Superb basses.

The jack issue is more of an issue with the part, not the company itself. They're completely unpredictable, I've even had numerous high quality ones fail on me. The contacts are very thin and they just bend. On a normal socket, fine, just bend them back, but as Warwickhunt says, it's a sealed unit.

I'm considering having the sockets on both the Streamers routed to have the locking ones fitted.

Having just suffered a very bad case of gas for a fretless. I've just bought (about 6 weeks ago) a Pro Series Fretless Ash Corvette, the passive model, from Thomann. It is B stock, but not a mark on it.

My budget wasn't particularly large, and I was really looking at Squier's and Vintage instruments. Then noticed the Warwick on Thomann. It ended up costing me very comfortably under £400, including credit card fees on the Euro to Pound conversion.

The quality of the bass is very good, even more so when the price is considered. Do I care about country or origin? Not at all.

These Pro Series instruments are in limited supply. I say grab one before Thomann sells out. It is nearly Christmas after all....:-)

Sounds good ....hmmm I'm looking for a decent fretless ...

Can't afford a new streamer stage ii??? Try this

http://www.bassdirec...LX_SE_2014.html

Build quality will burn anything warwick are churning out, besides the German made ones at least.

(Ducking for cover hehehehe)

I had a German made Warwick Streamer LX lefty: maple body, bell brass frets, gold hardware, active eq, possibly the most beautiful wooden object i've ever seen... Bought off eBay in 2007 for £450 cheeky bid with a hard case... It just wasn't perfect. It sounded great, I even invested in a Warwick sweet 15 amp which complimented it very well. I had to sell in 2009 to fund some training which helped my career progress but regret the sale now, especially at £550.

I'm seriously considering buying a fretless warwick pro series in bubinga - to me that *should* be the "warwick sound" but there are many others on my GAS list!! I just can't understand the price hike for the German made instruments recently - is there any explanation for this?

Actually, the Streamer is a copy of the original Spector...

Yes - I was being ironic... both nice basses and re. the post topic, I think the USA made Spectors suffer from the same eye-watering pricing as the German made Warwicks.

I bought second hand and got a nice late 80s Streamer standard from WarwickHunt for about £900. For the record, 'standard' in those days meant:

German-made

Neck-through

EMG P-J

2-band
I've never heard anyone complain before of the fit and finish of Warwick basses, regardless of era. They may well have come and gone in fashion and the various efforts to improve the nut have been ludicrous (we won't mention the jack sockets :) ) and the neck profiles are certainly a marmite thing but construction wise I've always found them spot on with no shonky woodwork/necks etc. :)
That mirrors my experience with a great sounding FNA that I had. An upgrade sorted the nut but the jack gave continual problems. In addition the plastic box the electronics are housed in didn't line up with the socket hole very well and it was always coming loose. In the end it I got sick of the niggles and it left the building. The finish and sound were superb.

Oops, I'm normally quick to latch onto irony. My apologies!

The earlier ones are fantastic having played a couple. Of what I own, the earliest is a '93 Corvette Proline from when they were made in Germany. £350 off eBay, and it sounds great. And again, good spec. Nice maple neck, German made, 2 band EQ with push / pull active... my '99 fretless Corvette Standard, as lovely as it is, wasn't even active!

I had the jack problem with my Bleached Blonde Thumb. Didn't know until reading this that the issue is hardly unheard of. Proved me right in always having a spare bass though as it clapped out 4 numbers into the first set a few weeks back.
New socket installed by the wonderful guy who does all my basses. £20, job sorted.

I need to move it on. It's a superb bass but very little interest from buyers or traders :scratch_one-s_head: .

Just don't get it to be honest but I do think the range of both product AND prices  doesn't help.

Most likely, I just can't be bothered with the constant replacing of one. As they say, do it properly first time...

I've seen the locking Neutrik done once before, the bass'll have to have some routing done around the socket to make it fit, but I'm speaking to Brian tomorrow to discuss it as there's really not a lot of space for one.
