d_g Posted December 11, 2014 Share Posted December 11, 2014 (edited) So I've been looking into possibly buying the RMI Basswitch IQ DI mostly for doubling on shows but also for gigs when I don't use an amp and can't seem to find the answer to this question anywhere. On an average gig I would put my electric bass through channel B and then the Realist pickup from my upright through channel A where I could change the EQ. All good so far, but I also need a boost/cut for the double bass for when I switch between arco and pizz (pizz is a lot quieter through the realist). Chiliwailer Posted December 13, 2014 Share Posted December 13, 2014 I can't comment in the Di I you mentioned, but if it's any help, I use a MXR Micro amp plus when switching between active and passive basses, to ensure that my compressor and Di I have the same inout level on each bass. Byo Posted December 14, 2014 Share Posted December 14, 2014 (edited) I do not own the Basswitch personally, but looking at the pics I am guessing that both channels are affected by the same volume knob at the input stage. If your electric and upright have the same levels, i.e electric Pickup and the Realist, you should be able to use the Boost to get your piezo up to matching levels. For doubling, I use the Radial Bassbone (older version). It has 2 separate volumes (cut only, it does not boost the signal) for each channel and I can use the boost (switchable) to match up my volumes or give me some extra volume for soloing if needed. krispn Posted December 26, 2014 Share Posted December 26, 2014 The boost is a universal boost and could be used to give you more output when swithchnig to the URB - the BS IQ also has an input impedance selector which will give the piezo more heft (not necessarily more volume) - See The Ed Friedland Bass Whisperer vids on youtue - he does some really useful demo's with the IQ between active/passive and on an upright. tonyxtiger Posted January 3, 2015 Share Posted January 3, 2015 You can use the effects loop in the pedal as a cut/boost or put another pedal in the loop to add further eq options if needed.
