1u poweramps??

Anyone have any experience using 1u poweramps and can recommend something? I'm looking to pair up with a trace v-type preamp.

Equally if you are thinking of selling sonething then let me know.

Cab I'm using is 700 watts / 4ohms so need something quite powerful.

Many thanks in advance!

Freddie

I've used a W-Audio Horizon 1U power amp in the past and it was good.
This one will mono bridge at 1100W @ 8ohms and do 2 X 550W @ 4ohms:

if your pockets are deep, then Powersoft offer some truly amazing amplifiers with a range of truly astounding power outputs. your other alternative is to trawl the for sale ads for either a Markbass F1 or F500 or Galien Krueger MB head such as the 500 or 800 - all of which are 1u heads with rack mounting kits and you can set them reasonably flat (or in the case of the GK heads, plug straight in to the effects return. A cheap way to a 1u power amp - you also have extra tone options should you use the preamp on those heads too!

I can recommend the ART SLA-2 amp I've been using that for my around town gigs with a single 15" EVM 15BX speaker and Ashly preamp (circa 1980) very clean and punchy; sounds SO much better than the cheap Class D stuff though this amp isn't light if that matters to you, (~20 lbs.)

Thanks for all replies guys - much appreciated!

Ideally 1u as planning to pop it into a 2u rack case along with preamp. Power wise, I'd prefer to have the headroom rather than be pushing it all the time and would like to have enough power (should I ever need it) to get the best of the cab I have which is a berg cn212.

Cheers again

I've used a Behringer EPQ900. My only complaint is the noisy fans.
fans can be replaced although good quiet ones can be expensive.

Yes, but they're particularly problematic in 1U amps. They're so small that they have to run much faster to pump enough air. Not sure what the replacement options are in this case.

Some of the puma amps are 1U with suitable rack ears, you could go into the line in, expensive but stupidly powerful and light and the option of using it standalone for emergencies.

The Synq's are really good! Very quick and precise. I had the Crest 8200 before the Synq 3k6 and this is some difference for sure.

For normal use the 1k0 is fine and delivers very much for not that much money. The 2k2 is really tough, but I was able to get the 3k6 for the price of the 2k2 (they were not in stock). So I got that going... which is fine with me :)

Nothing can compete with these amps without making huge limitations in some points. These things are light, loud, precise and comparatively reasonably priced.
I do not know the synq amps but 3600 watts in 1U is difficult. If you tske the best Clasd D amp it will be approx 93% efficient and a SMPS will be around 90%. So your amp will be generating approx 700 watts of heat Even with multiple fans and the biggest heat sink it would be hard to keep that cool,

Surely that's only true if you're pumping out full power continuously..? I suppose some do, but in 'normal' use, the 'real' power would, I suspect, be far less than that. Not saying that such an amp couldn't run hot, but it would be in rather special circumstances, I'd say. Putting out a 'clean' 200w (say...) and leaving the rest as transient 'headroom' could be a good deal, could it not..?

This amp is now for sale on this forum for £100. It is a total bargain.
