.... Is there anything else I should look at. I love the sound is can get out of the Sansamp and its built like a tank. Since I am working abroad I wanted to get another so I have one in UK and one abroad (for headphone practice)

So is there something better, cheaper or just different I should look at?
Any advice much appreciated!

vt bass DI can cop similar sounds but has more mids and is more versatile

The behringer bdi21 is basically a clone of the sansamp at a fraction of the price.

Both pretty much spot on. The Behringer is a great bit of kit, and at around £30 has to be worth a punt.

I really like the Aguilar Tonehammer, although it`s not that much less than the Sansamp.

Given that the OP is happy with the BDDI the obvious answer has to be a BD121 - sound is very very similar (I think the circuit uses slightly different opamps ) You lose the ruggedness and like Phantom Power but are left with £100+in your wallet.

I have the MXR M80 which I rather like.

Had one briefly, liked it. Preferred the clean channel though to be honest, added a nice thickness to the tone.

Any love for the Dave Hall Amps stuff? Real tubes too as well as sweepable mids.

Yep, had a DHA and liked that too... far too many tonal options for my liking though - at the time. ;)
